Information and Communications Specialist

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, in close coordination with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit and other relevant units of IOM Malaysia, the UNV Information and Communications Specialist will be responsible to perform the following tasks:

  • Design and implement the template for the IOM Malaysia country specific website.
  • Support IOM Malaysia’s website management, including updating content for mission’s website, in consultation with respective unit programme managers.
  • Support the management of all IOM social media accounts, including preparation of post materials and content, in line with IOM branding guidelines.
  • Track and record website and social media engagement and contribute ideas to programme units on improving reach and engagement.
  • Assist in writing press releases, human-interest stories, and other publication materials as required, coordination with local media as needed.
  • Conduct travel duty to document IOM field activities and events for visibility and reporting purposes, when required.
  • Maintenance of multimedia photo and video gallery with content from IOM projects in Malaysia.
  • Assist with production and dissemination of IOM publications.
  • Assist with development and implementation of information campaigns for IOM programmes, when required.
  • Provide informal translations from English to Bahasa Malay of project materials and provide interpretation services as needed.
  • Assist relevant Units with outreach, training on effective communication to refugees on hygiene, health information for travel, interviews, etc.
  • Perform any other relevant duties, which may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, international relations, journalism, arts and media, or related field with at least two years’ relevant experience, OR
  • Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience.
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • Previous work experience as a Communications Assistant or similar role.
  • Previous work experience of creating engaging digital content.
  • Previous work experience of writing copy for a variety of media and audiences.
  • Previous experience of successfully supporting the design and delivery of outreach events.
  • Previous work experience of managing relationships with government agencies, donors, NGO stakeholders and service providers.
  • Previous work experience of using appropriate software packages for content design and creation
  • Previous work experience with international organizations is an asset.
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Malay(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
