Driver and Logistics Assistant - Panama

Context

On February 1, 2021 the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean was established in Panamá. From there we work with democratic institutions throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region to increase the effectiveness and legitimacy of democracy, its institutions and to support gender equality in politics. Based on a geographic approach, our LAC programme responds to requests of regional, sub- regional and national actors, builds capacity through technical assistance, comparative applied knowledge resources and provides spaces for dialogue. The LAC programme is a significant partner and an agenda setter in many countries where it provides expert technical assistance.

The Driver and Logistics Assistant provides driving and logistical support, assists with the preparation of correspondence, bill payment and other office errands for the LAC Regional Office. Under the supervision of the Finance and Planning Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out driving missions as assigned by the Finance and Planning Officer;
  • Takes responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the office car;
  • Maintains all applicable vehicle and driver records in line with established time and reporting requirements;
  • Regularly checks and collects post, and assists in delivering messages and parcels to and from local authorities and government offices, as required;
  • Arranges schedules for the purchase of items for the office, payment of the utilities and deposits cash for the office;
  • Contributes to the distribution of incoming mail and newspapers throughout the office;
  • Assists in meetings preparation, including physical setting-up of meeting rooms.

  • Holds a clean driving license that is compliant with national law;
  • Is fit and medically certified for driving tasks;
  • Integrates the results-based approach into his/her activities;Understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with others throughout the organization;
  • Illustrates integrity, a collaborative spirit, a sense of achievement, and an understanding of risk management.

  • Has no supervisory responsibilities and manages own workload.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish and basic knowledge of English is required.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma;A minimum of two (2) years’ experience within a similar role, in the provision of driver services with a safe driving record is required;
  • Valid driving license (Car, Jeep, Delivery Van) is essential;
  • Military or security background is an advantage;
  • Experience of working in an international context, e.g. in an intergovernmental organization, NGO or diplomatic service considered an added advantage.

Terms of Contract:

  • Local Post.
  • Fixed term appointment for one (1) year.
  • GROSS Salary: 1,462 USD per month.

Please note as this is a local post, International IDEA will bear no costs relating to relocation of the selected candidate to the duty station. This position is open to those legally authorized to live and work in Panama.
