Organizational Setting

Under the guidance and the overall supervision of the land and water officer and the Project Manager of the GCP /RNE/009/SWE ('Implementing the 2030 Agenda for water efficiency/productivity and water sustainability in NENA countries') and the project Communications, stakeholder engagement, and outreach specialist in RNE, the consultant will carry out the following tasks for Communications, in collaboration with the project staff based in SNE following the 3 Maghreb countries, in close consultation with the Regional Communication and Knowledge Management Office in Cairo.

Reporting Lines

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of the FAO Subregional Office for North Africa and the technical supervision of the Technical Officer in charge of Land and Water and the CTA of the project, and in close collaboration with the project teams in the three North African beneficiary countries of the project

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Monitor the SNE countries communication strategies, by supervising and following up with the communication specialist in each country (if available, if not then make sure activities are being implemented). Regularly update the strategies as needed;
  • oversee the content development, expansion and continual assessment of the quality and relevance of web-based information services;
  • promote optimum visibility of the regional projects activities through effective media relations, placement and distribution of information material and creative partnerships with UN agencies, multilateral and non-governmental organizations and private sector;
  • organize and manage the process of continuous exchange with stakeholders in SNE countries on progress, lessons, results; including through technical

knowledge platforms and exchange;

  • participate in developing and reviewing information materials, technical papers and guidelines following the Corporate Communication

guidelines relating to and stakeholders platforms and partnerships on those topics;

  • participate in the design and implementation of activities aiming to increase stakeholders engagement and their awareness, ownership on

selected topics (ex. water scarcity, SDG6, water accounting, water productivity, value chains / food loss and waste and Nexus water/food

and agriculture) in close collaboration with RNE Communication as requested, provide technical backstopping to related field activities;

  • Develop success and web stories for the projects SNE countries in close collaboration with RNE Communication Unit and coordinate with countries to develop web stories. Develop tweets and ensure SNE countries send tweets for activities in the country;
  • participate in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations , trainings and conferences, the production of required materials,

awareness activities and the provision of information and assistance to partners;

  • support in preparing internal communications through the development and dissemination of a six month newsletter in French;
  • update French webpage from Typo3 backend as needed;
  • support the preparation of project regional events and trainings and take the lead when organized in the sub-region; this include regional campaigns, school and youth contest related to the world water day, hackathon events;
  • develop an SNE communication and visibility plan for the 2022 Land and Water days and for any event coming up in collaboration with RNE plan;
  • Support the edition, design and the processing through Publication Workflow System of selected reports.
  • Support in implementing awareness raising campaigns in SNE countries
  • provide any additional support to the Project Manager and the regional communications specialist in the implementation of the project and other duties as assigned;

Other activities if required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree
  • At least 5 years work experience (category B)
  • Working knowledge in English (level C)
  • Advanced knowledge of French or Arabic (level B)
  • National of Tunisia.

  • Good knowledge of FAO’s PWS system
