Eligibility criteria

Description of task

Within the terms of the organization’s delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the MINUSCA Medical Officer/Chief Medical Officer, the National UN Volunteer Medical Nurse (Public Health) will be responsible for:

  • Performing epidemiological and COVID-19 health information/data work including tracking of all UN system cases, deaths in all duty stations and entities, related data analytics, creation and improvements of dashboard and interpretation and publication of data products for UN senior management.

  • Conducting outbreak preparedness and response activities to halt transmission of the virus amongst UN personnel and dependents in each locality. Following up on overarching systems like comprehensive preparedness checklists and initiatives to forecast COVID-19 hot spots and systematically prepare duty stations for COVID- 19 resurgence locally.

  • Following up and implementing the UN System COVID-19 technical and staff guidelines related to COVID-19 preparedness and response issued by MINUSCA (Division of Healthcare Management And Occupational Safety and Health) for both UN medical staff as well as UN personnel-at-large.

  • Following up and implementing guidelines for the vaccination deployment effort roll outs from Bangui to all the mission duty stations in Central African Republic.

  • Training and communicating with UN medical staff and UN personnel needs to be conducted continuously. COVID-19 communication products such as, presentations, FAQs, briefing notes, need to be developed and published to keep UN medical staff and UN personnel abreast of the latest scientific information.

  • Providing COVID-19 technical advice to staff, constant 24/7 surveillance of the latest scientific research and evidence needs to be conducted.

  • Review of lessons learned for future pandemic preparedness There is a necessity for MINUSCA to review what would be the “new normal” following this pandemic, and to embed the lessons learnt from the COVID-19 experience to create new and better structures and frameworks for outbreak/pandemic response in the future.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Nursing degree and advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. public health, epidemiology, or infectious diseases; a combination of relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

At least 3 to 5 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in public health, outbreak management, health policy, and/or epidemiology; experience with communicable disease surveillance and epidemiologic/outbreak investigations is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; current registration as a nurse is required. Practical working experience in a cross-cultural environment would be an advantage.

Also required:

- Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate orally effectively;

- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
