Air Operations Assistant

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Air Region/Unit Chief the duties of the Operations Coordinator will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans and coordinates air transportation activities in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures, UN directives, Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) Aviation Manual, UN Aviation Standards for Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Air Transport Operations (UN AVSTADS), ICAO standards and recommended practices and the host country's Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs).

  • Ensure that air operations are conducted in compliance with Air Tasking Orders (ATOs)/Daily Flight Schedule (DFS), DPKO Aviation Manual, MONUSCO Aviation SOP and other relevant SOPs, UN directives, ICAO, IATA and the host country’s aviation standards, practices, procedures and regulations.

  • Review all operational and logistical mission requests sent by JMCC/MOVCON and Force Air Operations.

  • Manage CASEVAC/MEDEVAC flights, VIP flights and other special missions.

  • Participate in the integrated Search and Rescue operations for MONUSCO air assets and other aircraft upon request.

  • Review, plan and coordinate daily projected task orders and air support requirements.

  • Conduct risk analysis and determine risk mitigation measures in order to bring risks to acceptable levels.

  • Ensure airframes are selected and allocated to achieve maximum cost effectiveness in mission support.

  • Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Technical/Vocational diploma Education - Additional Comments:

Technical or vocational Diploma/License in Air Transport/Flight Operations, Air Traffic Control or graduation from equivalent military establishment is required.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation industry including at least 2 years of experience in an occupation directly related to air transportation operations

Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
Area of expertise: Air transport, air traffic control and safety Area of expertise details:
  • Air transport, air traffic control or safety are mandatory;

  • Other transport related experience Optional;

  • Computer skills: Proficient in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word,) and other IT applications.

  • Receptiveness towards client needs is very important, including the ability to maintain tact and diplomacy always.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in Air Transportation at Commercial Pilot License level as a minimum, Safety Management, Air Traffic Control or graduation from equivalent military establishment or military/air traffic control training is required;

  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation industry including at least 2 years of experience in an occupation directly related to air transportation operations;

  • Good knowledge of Aviation and of the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is needed;

  • Relevant training/experience in flight operations management, scheduling and support is highly desirable

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential and French is desirable.

    • Solid computer skills including proficiency and in-depth knowledge of MS office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point); High school diploma or equivalent.
