UNICEF offers the opportunity for talented students to gain professional experience while being exposed to the work of UNICEF. The internship in the Agora team offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the large-scale organisational learning and to develop further skills and knowledge ineLearning design and development. The intern will work under the supervision of the Learning and Development Specialist (e-learning), in the Learning and Knowledge Exchange (LKE)Section at the Division of Data, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) based in UNICEF’s New York headquarters. In the context of the covid-19pandemic, this position will be a home-based and full-time internship. The selected candidate will work remotely.

In February 2015, UNICEF launched a Learning Management System (LMS) to offer an easy, structured and centralized access to learning opportunities and to improve reporting and evaluation of learning activities. The platform called Agora (https://agora.unicef.org) includes over 1200 off-the-shelf courses and resources from specialized providers, custom UNICEF online courses, videos, whiteboard animations/video-scribing and blended learning programmes from both UNICEF and external providers.

How can you help make a difference?
The internship in the Agora teams offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the large-scale organisational learning and to develop further skills and knowledge in eLearning design and development. The intern will work under the supervision of the Learning and Development Specialist (e-learning), in the Learning and Knowledge Exchange (LKE)Section at the Division of Data, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) based in UNICEF’s New York headquarters. In the context of the covid-19 pandemic, this position will be a home-based and full-time internship. The selected candidate will work remotely from his/her home country. In close collaboration with the L&D Specialist and other colleagues, the intern will:

  • Support the creation of documentations for learning designer / course creators to be published on a Wiki.
  • Research best practices with certain tools (e.g. video authoring software, elearning production tools) through review of resources published, review of best practices and hands-on testing of solutions.
  • Draft “how to” documents and best practice document for the “Learning design and facilitation” wiki library
  • Document databases hosted on the Agora wiki (e.g. active projects, list of vendors,…)
  • Support the curation of the Agora catalogue of learning opportunities:
  • Review and update classification and tagging of courses;
  • Identify and archive unused or outdated learning assets;
  • Identify and publish external learning opportunities which are communicated to all staff in a monthly newsletter;
  • Contribute to quality assurance exercises for already published assets
  • Help with the design and/or update of learning channels (thematic learning spaces)
  • Publish UNICEF learning activities on the unsdglearn.org platform and identify other agencies useful resources
  • Connect with other UN agencies and INGOs to share elearning courses (leveraging existing agreements and/or signing new ones).
  • Learners support and guidance
  • Assist the team with responding to learners’ requests for support and/or guidance (received via a dedicated mailbox);
  • Collect and analyze data relating to issues and support requests;
  • Contribute to the design of communications targeted to end users, on the learning platform, and through other channels.
  • Content development & testing
  • Contribute to the review and testing of various versions new courses being development, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement. The intern will also get a chance to learn more about content development processes / project and stakeholders management by shadowing peers in certain meetings.

To qualify as a champion for every child, you will:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in Learning and development,Instructional design, Pedagogy/Adult learning, Video/Graphical production or similar fields; Social studies and international studies are alsoacceptable, provided that a strong interest in learning and development can be demonstrated. (Applicants must be at least 18 years old).
  • Be able work independently and within set timeframes.
  • Be willing to do both analytical assignments (reviewing new courses or suggesting courses that should be archived/retired) and repetitive tasks (e.g.updating classifications of activities or publishing external courses).
  • Ability to produce and analyse quantitative and qualitative reports.
  • Proficient with web technologies – Preferably with experience with of a Learning Management System (LMS) of a Content Management System(CMS) and proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English is required, proficiency in other UNICEF working languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) would be an asset.
