UNICEF Bulgaria is looking for a consultant to support the preparation, delivery and documentation of experiential team trainings of teachers under the Steps Together programme with focus on burn-out prevention.

Steps together is a school-based program intervention aimed at creating a safe school environment and preventing violence and bullying. The program builds on the whole-school approach, a social-ecological model to addressing the problem.

The overall goal of the work assignment is to support UNICEF and the Ministry of Education and Science in the preparation, delivery and documentation of experiential team trainings of teachers under the Steps Together programme with focus on burn-out prevention.

How can you make a difference?

1. Developing training programs and preparing training materials for teachers’ staff of selected schools:

- Conducting a quick research within professional networks for school management, prevention of burn-out among teachers, the concept and implementation of the Steps Together programme for school-based violence prevention to further inform the development of specialized trainings.

- Developing a training programme and preparing the necessary materials for its delivery.

2. Delivering experiential trainings for teachers’ staff in the selected schools aiming at:

  • Lowering the stress levels at the workplace (additionally escalated by the new conditions of switching from live to online mode of teaching) through relaxation and pleasant time together;
  • Acquiring theoretical knowledge and experience on burn-out causes and indicators;
  • Raising awareness on the effects of burn-out onto the communication with students and parents, with family, onto general health condition;
  • Learning and applying approaches to cope with professional stress and prevent emotional and professional burnout such as teamwork and cooperation with colleagues, planning and coordination of work tasks, distribution of workload and leisure/personal time etc.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Master’s degree or higher in one or more of the following areas: pedagogy, social pedagogy, pedagogy of special needs, social sciences/social work, psychology, or another relevant field.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the functioning and structure of the school education system.
  • Professional experience in providing group-dynamical trainings for school staff and other teams.
  • Good understanding of the conceptual framework, national policy framework and institutional arrangements relating to violence against children, prevention and child protection.
  • Ability to work independently, to work with teams through group dynamics, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Respect for cultural diversity and human rights.

 

It is expected that the assignment will take up to 25 working days in the period May - November 2021.

The consultant will receive a daily fee in accordance with the submitted and agreed with UNICEF financial offer. Payments will be made based on written certification of timely and satisfactorily provision of consultancy services provided every month.

The consultant is expected to have travels to country regions to provide the agreed deliverables (if the epidemiologic situation allows).

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
