The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section of UNICEF works with National Committees and UNICEF Country Offices to maximize income and drive income growth. There are five teams within the PSFP section. The purpose of the Global Philanthropy team is to grow income from major donors, faith and membership-based organizations.

The Faith and membership-based organizations giving channel at the Global Philanthropy team provides strategy development and capacity building for National Committees and Country Offices, including working with them to conduct prospect research, provide engagement and cultivation opportunities for global partners, support new business development discussion, share best practices, provide training, and support on prospect cultivation and management

For every child, a Champion

The incumbent for this post will be responsible for maximize engagement and income from Faith & Membership-Based Organizations, supporting the implementation of the global strategy, providing guidance, best practices and capacity building to Regional Support Centers and national markets.

In particular, this post will help the organization identify and support new partnership opportunities, provide cutting edge technical support to National Committees and Country Offices by offering training and mentoring to market focal points, sharing best practices, monitoring trends, managing working groups, and facilitating the dissemination of information for the purpose of knowledge sharing. In addition, the post holder will support with special projects as necessary.

How can you make a difference?

The incumbent for the post will be an essential member of a small team and thus will be called upon to support in a number of initiatives. The below is the current primary focus of the role that can be foreseen:

Accelerate faith-based philanthropy  

  • Support the implementation of the new Global fundraising Strategy to expand UNICEF’s engagement with faith-based organizations (FBOs).
  • Empower UNICEF markets, develop good practices and support markets new engagement opportunities ensuring donors are balanced across a broad spectrum of world faiths. 
  • Support the development of key enablers & tools that will position UNICEF as a partner of choice, and open new opportunities for faith philanthropy such as Fundraising narrative, communication materials, etc. 
  • Support the launch and coordination of the newly established Multi faith Giving Circle, a new platform mobilizing all faiths around a common cause and combining the complementary strengths, assets, capacities and financial contributions of a broad range of donors. 
  • Identify opportunities to include FBOs in global convenings, events and other key moments.

Grow membership giving revenue stream 

  • Strategic support to existing partnerships in the membership giving revenue stream, ensuring these strategic partnerships are adequately recognized and promoted at various events and engagement platforms (Changemakers, UNICEF Global Summit for Children, UNGA, etc.).
  • In collaboration with markets, identify new partnerships with growing potential, with a focus on the development of donor journeys and stewardship strategies leading to strengthened partnerships and new income. 
  • Establish pipeline of top prospects and Monitor additional national mappings conducted by key markets.
  • Support the development of supporting tools (Donor profiles) and ensure markets apply Due Diligence to all new prospects and opportunities.
  • Support the identification of philanthropy networks/events to promote UNICEF and maximize opportunities for engagement with prospects.  

Knowledge management & capacity building  

  • Plan and lead training sessions (Webinars, Skill share, etc.), and develop and launch a new Faith and Membership Training Academy. 
  • Develop good practices, produce training content for relationship managers including sharing cross-market learnings, with a special focus on Digital Engagement and Faith. 
  • Manage a Community of Practice: markets calls, newsletters, etc. 
  • Manage Intranet dedicated page. 

Strategic support to the Membership & Faith Based Organization channel 

  • Promote and represent the unit and channel at different internal meetings. 
  • Income projections, RER quarterly and annual results. 
  • Additional projects: Soft credit, Annual report recognition, etc.

DELIVERABLES:

Efficient and effective delivery against the above accountabilities will result in enhanced or new partnerships and financial resources in support of UNICEF’s programmes. It will also result in stronger collaboration with National Committees and Country Offices.

Example of specific deliverables will include but not be limited to the following:

  • New partnerships signed with Faith & Membership Organizations
  • Global pipeline of top prospects with engagements plans
  • Delivery of a new Faith and Membership Training Academy
  • Webinars on faith & membership throughout the year
  • Monthly newsletters, bi-monthly community of practice calls

To Qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in Religion, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Fundraising, Social Sciences, Development Studies, other related fields is required. (Alternatively, A first level university degree in a relevant area combined with 7 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.) 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience at national and international levels in research and analysis and/or partnership development is required.
  • Experience in cultivating high-value gifts and developing fundraising strategy is required.
  • Knowledge of UNICEF or the UN system approaches to partnerships with the private sector is an asset.
  • Familiarity with global fundraising landscape is required.
  • Knowledge of diverse faiths and faith-based landscape is a plus.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and organizational skills; ability to communicate and facilitate complex discussions with different stakeholders, particularly in a multi-cultural context.
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in the use of office IT applications and internet in conducting research.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered as an asset.
