Research Assistant- Integrated Food & Energy Systems

  1. Data Collection through semi-structured interviews, Q-sort, and workshops on stakeholder perceptions of integrated food and energy production systems in East Africa.
  2. Data Analysis including transcription of interviews and creation of data visualizations as directed and supported by the research team.
  3. Contribute to communications materials on food and energy production systems for diverse audiences, including farmers, extension, policy makers, donors, etc.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Education, knowledge, and experience:

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline (agriculture, energy, sociology, international development, economics, political ecology, gender studies, human geography, etc.), with a strong social science focus is required.
  • Minimum of research experience as a research assistant or master’s student working in a relevant discipline and in an international setting. Experience in East Africa preferred.
  • Conducting surveys, structured & semi-structured interviews.
  • Analyzing interview data.
  • Good data management skills.
  • Experience with R, Stata, SPSS or other relevant data analysis software.

Personal attributes and competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing in English.
  • Ability to speak Kiswahili or other languages commonly used in East Africa desired.
  • Ability and experience to work in an international and transdisciplinary research environment.
  • Ability to work remotely, familiarity with zoom, miro, google drive or other collaborative tools preferred given ongoing COVID19 restrictions.
