Policy Analyst - Humanitarian oordination

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Peace, Security and Humanitarian Section (WPSH) of the Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division supports UN Women to fulfill its coordination mandate in the areas of peace and security and humanitarian action.  The Section specifically works on supporting Member States, UN Women Country Offices, and in collaboration with other UN entities Partners, including women’s organizations and networks to promote UN coordination and improved normative and accountability mechanisms on women’s meaningful participation (prevention, mitigation and preparedness) in peacebuilding, recovery, humanitarian emergency response, disaster risk management  and resilience. 

Reporting to the Humanitarian Policy Specialist, the Humanitarian Coordination Analyst (Policy Analyst) will provide support to the WPSH in enhancing collaboration and partnerships within the humanitarian space with key strategic partners such as UN OCHA, UNHCR, WFP, UNFPA. This will include assisting with coordination and accountability of inter-agency humanitarian mechanisms as led by the Humanitarian Policy Specialist; support to UN Women COs and ROs engaging in inter-agency humanitarian work; and by supporting and building UN Women’s partnership with the Standby Partners Network.

Develop resources highlighting UN Women’s achievements in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls (GEEWG) in humanitarian settings\:

  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of an Annual Report on UN Women’s humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction work to showcase the agency’s achievements globally.
  • Provide technical and coordination support in the publication of the 2020 Gender Accountability Framework Report.
  • Liaise with UN Women’s Communications team to amplify the team’s advocacy efforts and support the Humanitarian team in its engagement with UN Women’s Strategic Partnerships Division.

Provide technical and coordination support  related to inter-agency efforts to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in humanitarian action\:

  • Liaise with partner UN agencies – including UN OCHA – to strengthen the focus on GEEWG in humanitarian coordination at the global level.
  • Provide technical advice on gender mainstreaming efforts undertaken by humanitarian actors.
  • Provide technical support the regional and country offices on humanitarian action including providing inputs to donor proposal and the development of tools and material.
  • Provide technical and coordination support in the implementation of commitments under the World Humanitarian Summit’s Agenda for Humanity, the Grand Bargain, the New York Declaration on Refugees and Migrants, the Global Compact on Refugees and the IASC Gender Policy.
  • Serve as acting focal point for UN Women’s partnership with WFP on blockchain initiatives in humanitarian settings.

Maintain UN Women’s membership in the Standby Partnership Network (SBPN)\:

  • Advocate for greater attention to gender priorities and skill sets in gender in humanitarian action in prioritization of deployments channeled through the SBPN.
  • Secure deployments for UN Women offices responding to humanitarian crisis.
  • Initiate partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with additional standby partnerships to enhance UN Women’s ability to secure deployments.
