Organizational Setting

 

The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; in catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; in developing indigenous capabilities for national energy planning; in deploying new nuclear power plants; in preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and in advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.
 

The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.

Main Purpose

 

As a member of the IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) Project Management Team (PMT) and reporting directly to the Project Manager (MSCFP), the MSCFP Project Officer proposes effective project management approaches supporting the IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme operation; coordinates the implementation of project management activities, monitors and updates the project plan and schedule to ensure that activities are implemented on time and fit the MSCFP priorities, analyses related processes and suggests improvements, supports the development of project related documents and provides regular and ad hoc reports to ensure that project specific tracking and reporting mechanisms are maintained.

 

Role

 

The MSCFP Project Officer is\: (1) a project specialist, providing project management monitoring and reporting; (2) a facilitator ensuring that contributing Agency Divisions as well as contractors and counterparts are appropriately involved in planning and progressing the IAEA MSCFP operation related activities; (3) a specialist advising the Project Manager and other senior managers on project related issues; (4) an assistant to the MSCFP Steering Committee; Technical Selection Committee on all aspects of the project and (5) a relationship coordinator ensuring that a cooperative and energetic project environment is maintained.

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

  • Monitors and updates the project action plan; proposes methodologies to improve the project action plan; obtains inputs and negotiates activities and schedules with contributing Divisions, contractors, and counterparts; maps activities and monitors progress on deliverables.
  • Under the guidance of the Project Manager prepares regular reports for the project governance focusing on the project results, outputs, and deliverables. Drafts briefing papers and presentations to different stakeholders as required.
  • In close collaboration with the Project Manager coordinates with other members of the MSCFP the implementation of project management activities and ensures that all relevant action plan and documents are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Preforms quality checks of different processes.
  • Assists in assessment of progress and report on the achievement of project results in line with quality management standards.
  • Identify lessons learned and proposes adaptations and innovations to monitoring and assessment mechanisms and tools.
  • Drafts terms of reference and progress; prepares periodic milestone/action stage reviews; and ensures that required approvals are obtained.
  • Contributes to the documentation of knowledge by proposing examples of best practices and success stories, as well as replicable strategies and approaches, and actively share and apply this knowledge.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Bachelor's Degree - University degree in management, social sciences, science and technology, or international relations. Advanced university degree is an asset.

Minimum of five years' international cooperation experience in nuclear or other relevant industries, of which two years' project management experience in high-visibility, cross-cutting projects.
Prince 2 Practitioner training preferred.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

 

Remuneration

 

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $62120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 32178, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
