Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task
  1. Under the supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Officer, the International UN Volunteer/ Specialist will undertake the following tasks:

    Essential

    Social media management and visualization:

    •  Manage UNDP Kazakhstan social media - Twitter, Instagram, Facebook: a) develop content strategy; b) plan content posting; c) perform regular engagement monitoring and analysis;

    •  Develop and design the (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) ;

    •  Undertake social media audit at the end of 2021;

    •  Design infographics, presentations and other corporate material (leaflets,

      brochures, manuals) disseminated to the Government, partners, donors, public;

    •  Identify innovative ways and new communications tools to display / promote the work of UNDP Kazakhstan;

    •  Support the communication team in developing digital content such as videos, photo exhibits, podcasts, etc. to promote key themes (climate change, inequalities, gender equality), major events and key programme results.

      Website management:

    •  Regularly update UNDP Kazakhstan website content based on the corporate requirements in cooperation with the ICT and communication team;

    •  Contribute to the UNDP Kazakhstan website content development and design;

    •  Build the research and publications section on the website as a repository of

      the knowledge materials produced by UNDP Kazakhstan.

      Communication and advocacy materials/capacity building:

    •  Identify innovative opportunities and new communications tools and platforms to display the key work of the UNDP Kazakhstan;

    •  Assist the Communication team with any tasks related to communication and advocacy (producing stories, press releases, speeches, etc.);

    •  Provide trainings for UNDP Kazakhstan staff on communications and advocacy for further development.

      Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

    •  Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

    •  Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;

      • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities;

      •  Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

      •  Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

      •  Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering

        service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  1. Type of degree: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Social Sciences, or similar.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:
  1. Years of work experience: 3 years of professional experience relevant to communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, at either the national or international level.

Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Russian(Optional), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise: Other communications related experience Area of expertise details:
  • Strong copywriting, editing skills;

  •  Advanced user level in social media management and monitoring tools and

    instruments, hashtag monitoring for campaigns, influence management, etc

    (e.g. Hootsuit, Tweetdeck, etc);

  •  Portfolio of implemented social media campaigns, including with the participation of social media influencers; website optimization for search engines (social media assets, visuals, videos, human interest stories, etc. should be uploaded to a cloud and a link can be shared with the recruiter);

    •  Experience with development and implementation of communication

      strategies;

    •  Proficiency in using the following applications:

      o Microsoft Office Suite, email/Internet, Teams, Zoom;

      o Canva, Piktochart, Adobe Photoshop, Prezi, Adobe Illustrator, etc.

    •  Creative skills & nature.

      Advantage:

    •  Skilled in web and graphic design;

    •  Video editing and design.

    Fluent in English, advanced knowledge of Russian is an asset.
