Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in FAO Representation in Sanaa, Yemen. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of Assistant FAOR (Program), and in close consultation with other project managers and technical staff, incumbent will be responsible for ensuring high quality of outputs on all matters related to the project.

Technical Focus

Application of nutrition analysis, including design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and risk management frameworks to inform programmes and actions at various levels.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Make sure that nutrition is streamed in all food security and livelihood interventions including on/off farm income generating activities
  • Expand data collection and analysis processes led by Governmental institutions and other key partners and ensure that the various nutrition databases are maintained and updated with relevant information;
  • Provide advice on food and nutrition security coordination mechanism(s) at a National and Governorate level;
  • Support promotion of nutrition sensitive agricultural development practices;
  • Identify capacity gaps among staff members in the programme team;
  • Participate in and support policy review processes related to food and nutrition security in collaboration with project managers, the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health and other relevant government partners, to ensure nutritional problems and the right to food are adequately addressed in national and sub-national policies, strategies and plans;
  • Provide technical support to line ministry staff to incorporate nutrition objectives and activities in all food security, agricultural and livelihood support relevant projects (at formulation and implementation stage);
  • Represent FAO project in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement in Yemen, interagency cluster and relevant working groups (nutrition, health and food security) meetings
  • Support the development of structures to improve contextual information availability, through increasing coordination and liaison with other sectors parts, such as the SUN movement in Yemen;
  • Monitor communication with partners in relation to nutrition assessment planning and analysis – linked to improve coordination at all levels;
  • Prepare and submit reports as per the rules and regulation of FAO and concerned donors;
  • Perform other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in food and nutrition security or a related field
  • Five years of experience in nutrition sensitive agriculture, food security and livelihood programming; food and nutrition security analysis, policies and programmes and in capacity development for food and nutrition security.
  • Full competency and fluency in English and Arabic.

Selection Criteria

  • Extent and relevance of experience in nutrition sensitive agricultural programming, food security and nutrition monitoring and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting, advising and monitoring training processes on food security and nutrition analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing a variety of analytical methodologies and techniques related to food security
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining partnership with UN agencies, NGOs, governmental and media agencies
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement and report on work
  • Relevant work experience in emergency situations
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing, and ability to draft technical reports in English
