Description of task

The Research Associate will report directly to the Assigned Team Leader of the Pakistan Climate Change Platform (based in Islamabad) and perform the following tasks:

  • To coordinate closely with the team in the design and development of the platform, including any analytical work that may be required as inputs. Provide technical and administrative support as required, including writing briefs, preparing outreach material, setting up clinics or seminars, providing research inputs, communications support and other tasks required for the platform as needed.
  • Review existing analytical work and identify key operational recommendations.
  • Review the ADP to assess how best to incorporate climate change adaptation/mitigation considerations;
  • To support the mapping of climate change data available in Pakistan, including providing support and coordinating an online data management tool.
  • To arrange meetings with subject-experts to facilitate cross-sectoral discussions on climate change in operations.
  • To provide inputs for informational brochures or reports to be developed by the platform team.
  • To set up and maintain a database of relevant experts and think tanks in the field and periodically arrange meetings as required.
  • To provide analytical inputs and inputs for reports and just in time notes as required.
  • To provide support and guidance to task teams for operations, and to act as a liaison between the relevant Bank teams.
  • Any other tasks required to support the climate change platform.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

A Bachelors degree in economics, environment, climate change, social sciences, sociology, anthropology or a related social science field with demonstrable experience on climate related issues preferred.

Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience;
  • Experience and ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research in Pakistan;
  • An ability and willingness to liaise closely with research firms and to coordinate field visits while representing the World Bank
  • Technical and analytical skills in climate or sustainable development issues and ability to provide well-grounded, quality analytical inputs with pragmatism and a focus on results;
  • Ability to think innovatively and strategically in dealing with policy issues
  • Hard working, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and a proven ability to work in multicultural settings and teams;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
