IRC is one of the first humanitarian organizations to bring together specific disciplines involved in violence prevention and response (VPR) in conflict affected settings to ensure collaborative and still specialized support to survivors and those at risk of violence. Over the past 16 years, IRC has pioneered and implemented programs that prevent and respond to violence against women and children, as well as other vulnerable groups in refugee settings and in other conflict-affected contexts, making the IRC a global leader in this field.

The Primary Prevention Advisor is a parental leave cover role that will be responsible for a body of work on violence against women and girls and co-occurring family violence.Currently this includes the EMAP Plus and Safe at Home projects with the potential for expansion based on business development opportunities over the period.The Advisor will lead business development and manage all technical components of this body of work.

Length of Assignment: 6 months, maternity leave coverage

Location: Flexible on remote/home based location, Global

 

Major Responsibilities:

Program design and implementation

EMAP PLUS Project

• In collaboration with the EMAP PLUS Specialist, lead the EMAP PLUS Practitioners Meeting in April 2020.

• Work with EMAP PLUS Specialist to oversee the updates to the EMAP program approach for adult men and women, building from EMAP learning conducted in Cote d’Ivoire and Tanzania in early 2021. Update full curriculum and training approach in preparation for piloting in September 2021.

• Support the EMAP Specialist to collaborate with project steering committee, country teams, and program participants to vet revised content of EMAP approach for adult women and men.

• Support EMAP PLUS Specialist to contextualize the EMAP PLUS approach to Colombia, layering in a rights based framework.

• Collaborate with monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) colleagues to review and revise existing MEL system for EMAP.

• Collaboration with EMAP PLUS Specialist and Senior Advisor for Technology and Information Management to advance the BCC component of the project in alignment with the work plan


Safe at Home project

• Review the older person case management guidelines developed and revise in alignment with feedback from internal and external collaborators.

• Provide virtual training to Myanmar and DRC country colleagues on older person CM guidelines for integration in existing services.

• Support the DRC country team to develop a radio approach for Safe at Home content, including planning of content and recording of radio sessions.

• Work in collaboration with research and innovation colleagues on the implementation of the DRC RCT endline research.

• Launch LGBTQI scoping study in external fora.

• Collaborate with Safe at Home project team and external advisory board through regular calls.

• Provide 10 day virtual inclusion training to Safe at Home team in Myanmar.

• Support Myanmar and DRC country programs on programmatic and grant related issues.

• Complete budget oversight of Safe at Home project.

 

Coordination and representation

• Work closely with Senior Technical Advisors across country support and TIER on strategy, program design and implementation, and learning efforts.

• Represent IRC in coordination efforts and external fora focused on family violence and primary prevention of VAWG as needed

 

Supervision and mentoring:

• Supervise EMAP Specialist and support her/his professional exposure growth

• Mentor field colleagues engaged in the project with an eye towards growth opportunities in areas of technical or process expertise.

 

Other tasks:

• Complete business development, as requested.
