The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH, Livelihoods and Protection services to children, women and people in need of mental health support. IRC Hellas currently has offices in Athens and on Lesvos, Chios and Samos.
SCOPE OF WORK
In response to the recent fire and destruction of the Μoria RIC on Lesvos island, the IRC started the implementation of a child protection program, to assess the needs on the ground, identify vulnerable children and families and offer child protection case management, psychosocial support activities to children of all ages, as well as parenting support. The facilitators will be responsible for delivering a series of activities to preschool children (up to 6 years old), in safe spaces for children (SSC) that will be established in Lesvos RIC and in partner organization premises. The facilitators will be also offering activities to parents/caregivers and especially to mothers of babies and children 0 to 3 years old, through the operation of a Mother Baby Corner (MBC). The facilitators will follow existing curricula and methodologies and activities aim at building children’s social and emotional learning skills, cognitive and physical development, creating and supporting Safe, nurturing and enriching relationships with consistent caregivers and trusted adults. 
Responsibilities:
  • Use child-centered approaches and provide a safe environment for playing, socializing and learning according to established schedules and routines in the safe spaces in the RIC or in different environments, when needed;
  • Lead games and activities and regularly revise them and adapt them to the needs of the children and parents/caregivers;
  • Help in setting schedules for daily/weekly activities for children;
  • Carry out appropriate activities for mothers of babies;
  • Closely supervise children during group play and ensure they are safe while receiving services in the SSC;
  • Appropriately handle any crises or issues that arise in the SSC and MBC;
  • Create a positive and trustful atmosphere while interacting with children and parents, encouraging them to express their needs and ensuring their feeling of safety;
  • Ensure children at risk are identified and referred internally to the outreach and case management team;
  • Observe children with special needs and ensure they are well integrated into the activities and if needed refer them to relevant services;
  • Take children’s attendance for each session, keep accurate, daily updated records and safely store them;
  • Answer questions from community members and parents about what activities are taking place in the SSC;
  • Maintain effective communication with parents/caregivers and establish professionals but caring relationships with them and their children;
  • Identify and provide materials required for activities preferred by children, in coordination with relevant departments and procurement procedures;
  • Attend trainings organized by the IRC and/ or other organizations;
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy and IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs

Professional Standards:

All Facilitators are required to adhere to the IRC Child Safeguarding Principles, The IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.
