IRC's External Relations (ER) department is responsible for the global delivery of the International Rescue Committee’s private sector resources (financially contributing circa USD200m per annum, as well as key partnerships and influence that support our mission), and plays an important strategic role in the creation of IRC’s brand, awareness and support for its advocacy goals.

The ER department is at the beginning stages of crafting a new ground-breaking and ambitious strategy that will improve IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy and brand awareness. The main objective of the department is to enable this organization of more than 12,000 staff to have the resources needed to continue serving 18 million people worldwide in places affected by war and disaster, shape the humanitarian sector by influencing key policies and reforms and build and grow IRC’s reputation.

The USA Philanthropy unit, part of the ER department, leads on the organization’s work with USA-based High-Net-Worth Individuals. Job Overview:

The Senior Director of Major Giving is a leadership role within the USA Philanthropy division of ER.We are looking for an experienced, energetic, creative, and results oriented fundraiser with stellar leadership skills, and a proven track record of closing six and seven figure gifts.

Reporting to the VP of USA Philanthropy, the Senior Director will be responsible for soliciting gifts, and building and sustaining a pipeline of highly committed donors able to make major gifts to sustain the IRC’s critical mission. As the successful candidate, you will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects through the complete donor life cycle (qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship). You will also be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies that will support USA Philanthropy’s goal of eventually exceeding $100MM annually in philanthropic cash revenue for IRC.As part of this effort, you will lead prospect engagement opportunities, strategies and solicitations at the highest levels through a collaborative team approach with the President & CEO, the Vice President of USA Philanthropy, and with heads of IRC program units to guarantee the success of the Major Giving team.

Beyond participating in direct fundraising, the Senior Director will have responsibility for the day-to-day management and mentorship of three Major Giving teams comprised of approximately fourteen fundraising professionals and support staff. Likewise, the Senior Director will collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Principal & Planned Giving and teams across External Relations to achieve fundraising and engagement goals.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Fundraise

Manage a portfolio of 30 donors and prospects capable of making annual six- to seven-figure gifts.

·Develop and implement donor strategies focused on moving donors up the giving pyramid.

·Initiate, develop and coordinate delivery of proposals that directly support IRC’s fundraising priorities based on its strategic plan and major initiatives

· Secure dollar commitments at a level established during goal setting, and set the pace for ever increasing dollar goals

·Achieve goals and metrics related to donor visits, solicitations, gifts and pledges closed and other critical metrics

·Cultivate, solicit and steward gifts, and staff executives, program leaders and board members in fundraising activities

·Collaboratively facilitate strategy discussions and prepare visit briefings for leadership

·Promote teamwork and donor-centered fundraising principles when developing strategies for Major Giving prospects and donors

·Complete call reports in a timely manner to document substantive donor interactions

 

Team Management

·In partnership with the VP for USA Philanthropy, develop an annual strategic plan for the major gifts program that identifies specific annual goals and a timeline for tracking achievements. Lead and mentor staff to ensure that they each hit their goals

·Meet regularly with team directors to support them in their fundraising and management responsibilities

· Develop goals, plans, and performance measures, and monitor activity and progress toward those goals

·Workeffectively across departments and divisions to develop materials and research to support the successful cultivation and solicitation of major gifts

·Provide fundraising expertise and guidance within the division, particularly in the structuring of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for individual prospects and donors

·Manage the unit’s budget
