Education and Employment Specialist

Under the supervision of the Employment Manager, the Education Specialist will work with the Early Employment Team through an integrated approach to help refugees learn new concepts, adapt to US Workforce norms and expectations, and thrive financially in the U.S. This role will be responsible for coordinating, tracking, and teaching or overseeing instruction of classes such as Job Readiness, Financial Literacy, Vocational ESL, and Supplementary workshops. The Specialist will oversee a team of volunteers and interns to support implementing specific programs and working with clients to build essential skills and increase financial capabilities, while tracking progress towards outcomes and working collaboratively with other staff.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Work Readiness and English Education

• Keep accurate attendance records and client pre- and post-assessments, including data entry

O Implement and conduct vocational training courses that include ESL, cultural and workplace orientation, mock interviews, creation of resumes, and job skills development sessions;

O Oversee instructor onboarding for Vocational ESL, use an online ESL curriculum database to set class schedules and lessons, and oversee class operations

O Design, coordinate, and implement supplemental workshops, including 1-day volunteer opportunities and relevant cash-in-kind generating activities for employment programs.

O Assist in the development and implementation of monthly trainings for all employment clients. Examples include employer led trainings, lessons on applying for county and state jobs, attaining driver’s licenses, accessing childcare, and tours of local colleges and universities.


Adult Education

• Onboard and train volunteers and interns to teach Vocational ESL successfully both virtually and in-person

• Consistently update Vocational ESL curriculum to meet the needs of the English learning community and include adult learning practices.

• Successfully track attendance and follow-up with necessary staff with relevant client updates

 

Other tasks

• Use ETO and any other funder required databases to track client services, outcomes, and metrics.

• Monitor and adhere to the program budget throughout the project duration.

• Participate in all-staff/ program meetings.

• Other related duties as assigned.
