Organizational Setting:

The Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean (SLC) is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing sub-regional food, agriculture and rural development priorities. It develops and maintains relations with sub-region wide institutions including Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). The Sub-Regional Office is a subsidiary of FAO’s Regional Office for the Latin America and the Caribbean (RLC).

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations develops a project for improving animal identification and traceability in the Caribbean Region. This project is in alignment with the strategic Objectives 4 (Enable more inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems) and Strategic Objective 2 (Make Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries more productive and sustainable). The strategic objectives here cited are framed under the Regional Initiative 3 (Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture).

Reporting Lines

The consultant will develop the proposed activities under the direct supervision of the Regional Livestock Officer and the Budget Holder of the project: Multipurpose animal recording platform for improving national and sub-regional identification and traceability of livestock in the Caribbean region TCP/SLC/3802. The Livestock Officer for the Caribbean will co-supervise the Consultant.

Technical Focus

This consultancy will focus on the coordination and monitoring of a subregional project focused on the development of animal identification and traceability system. The consultant will interact with counterparts of the beneficiary countries as well as with the task force of the team and the rest of the stakeholders involved in the project.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in Agronomy Science, Veterinary Medicine or Animal Production
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in in the implementation of livestock projects, in particular in the implementation, monitoring and coordination of short-term result-based projects.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) for Consultants.
