Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the terms of the organization’s delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Financing for Peacebuilding Branch, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Web Application Development:
  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of Drupal based websites;
  • The UNV will help to improve the end-user experience for the PBF website and adoption of web applications.
  • Design new webpages as required for greater visibility and results reporting;
  • Update and maintain end-to-end solutions based on functional requirements.
  1. Data and content maintenance:
  • Post and update website content including Country specific pages;
  • Upload documents to the website including the country briefs;
  • Ensure the quality of the data before inserting or migrating
  • Regularly update photo library and other organizational databases with information received from Regional/Country Offices;
  • Perform other data and content maintenance related tasks as required
  1. Documentation, outreach and user support:
  • Draft, write, design and produce various types of documentations, such as user manual or guidelines to support country office colleagues; outreach or awareness materials, including e-flyers, and simple video clips; minutes of meetings; and systems documentation.
  • Produce regular easy to read and appealing reports and statistics on data status and application usage, making use of Google Analytics.
  • Support the implementation of the Advocacy and Communication Strategy with a focus on redesigning the PBF website and regularly updating content on the website for greater advocacy and donor communications.
  • Assist in running a series of webinars using the standard platforms in PBF
  • Perform other documentation and outreach related tasks as required.

Promotion of the United Nations Volunteers Programme mandate.

UN volunteers are expected to integrate the UN Volunteers Programme mandate within their assignment as well as promote voluntary action through engagement with communities (urban and rural) in the course of their work. As such, the incumbent UN Volunteer should dedicate a proportion of his/her working week to the following in support of and in synergy with his/her primary role as Peacebuilding Support Volunteer:

  • Strengthen knowledge and understanding of the influence and impact of voluntary action by communities in monitoring processes related to their recovery and development through local/municipal level peacebuilding and participatory governance initiatives and programmes focused on building community level capacity to engage in peacebuilding and conflict prevention;
  • Promote and/or advise local groups in the use of OV (online volunteering), and encourage relevant local individuals and groups to use OV whenever technically possible;
  • Contribute to articles/write-ups on the work of the PBF portfolio and the above-outlined activities and submit them to UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • A master’s degree in web design, web management, communications or a related field;
  • At least two years progressively responsible experience in website related management, preferably in an international context, preferably in peacebuilding;
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of another official language an advantage;
  • Experience working in challenging international environments an advantage;
  • Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Have affinity with or interest in post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
