Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Youth Specialist , the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

The UN Volunteer will substantively contribute to the effective management of UNFPA activities in the area of adolescent and youth in line with CPD 2020-2024 and COVID-19 response

About the assignment:

The overall goal of this assignment is to support strengthening the Youth Peace and Security Coalition on UN Resolution 2250 for better performance in mobilizing the Youth groups, decision makers, and the civil NGOs to increase the youth participation in good governance and decision-making process.

Under the guidance of Youth Specialist, the UNV will work closely with youth team on the following areas:

  • Provide administrative support to the Iraqi Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security, as relevant, including the development and implementation of the work plan, and supporting the operational effectiveness of the secretariat.
  • Support in intra-governmental coordination for YPS mainstreaming in government entities.
  • Support in organizing inter-agency coordination meetings and joint programming of UN agencies on YPS in Iraq.
  • Organizing timely, participatory and inclusive consultations or workshops with key stakeholders on YPS.
  • Developing a capacity development plan for and in cooperation with the Iraqi Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security.
  • Organizing regular meetings, public events and workshops.
  • Mapping of YPS related activities and actors at local, national and subnational levels.
  • Work closely with the Implementing partners and provide technical backstopping, coach in development of good quality narrative reports and document good practices on youth peace and security from the field.
  • Represents UNFPA in relevant external meetings, working groups and coordination forums and responds to requests for information on youth, peace and security;
  • Any other youth related Programme/project tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Political Science, Social Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Humanitarian aid, or related

Required experience: 12 Months Experience remark:
  • At least 1 year of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in Youth Peace and Security, or other relevant programmes; experience with youth participation is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing an advocacy and communications strategy, including developing evidence and stories for advocacy purposes.
  • Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge in the subject areas mentioned above.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
