Information Management Officer

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of OUSG or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Information Management Officer will:

  • Provide expertise on the use and development of information management tools and platforms and identify new data analysis process improvement opportunities
  • Participate in information management networks and processes to facilitate the exchange of information and the promotion of data and information standards, common platforms, and the exchange of information.
  • Engage with UNOCT staff and counterparts to identify appropriate data sources for analytics projects and ensure that information activities are coordinated and consistent with relevant standard and practices
  • Collaborate with programme management officers to improve data flows, data quality, etc.
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Develop and implement various analysis, reporting and quality control capabilities
  • Produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a story-line
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, information systems or a related field. first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark:
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in information management, information systems, applied analytics, business intelligence, statistics, data management, GIS & mapping, data visualization, or other related area, is required.
  • Experience in using data to inform decisions, strategies and execution is required.
  • Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (SAP Business Objects, etc.) is required.
  • Experience in tools managing version control such as Git is highly desirable.
  • Experience with database or programming languages (SQL, Python, R) is desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills.
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Sound security awareness.
  • Have affinity with or interest in UN Counter Terrorism activities, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
