We are currently seeking to fill a Communications Intern position based in Brussels, Belgium.
Brief description of the WFP Brussels (BRU) Communications Unit:
The position is set in the WFP Office to the European Union (EU). The intern will support BRU’s Communications Unit across several areas including corporate and donor visibility, social media and campaigns as well as events, publications and other projects. S/he will work under the direct supervision of BRU’s Communications Team Leader, collaborating with two BRU Communications Consultants as well as internal and external partners.

Duties and responsibilities
The candidate will perform the following duties:
- Support the BRU Communications Unit’s corporate and EU visibility work to amplify WFP’s profile in Brussels and help promote the WFP-EU partnership among relevant audiences
- Help provide content for social media as well as support social listening and community management activities
- Support in preparation of internal and external communications materials, including social media copy, human stories, reports, brochures, leaflets and other formats
- Help with media monitoring and coverage reports following major media pushes
- Assist in digital stakeholder mapping for communications purposes and regularly update contact lists (EU institutional stakeholders, traditional media contacts, BE/NL celebrities and relevant social media influencers)
- Assist in keeping track of important EU events, milestones and other communication opportunities in Brussels
- Support planning, organization and staffing of Brussels-based visibility activities and events
- Assist with procurement work related to communications projects
- Draft minutes for internal and external meetings or events
- Provide relevant research and other ad-hoc support
Qualifications and experience
- Currently enrolled with at least two years undergraduate studies completed, or recently graduated (within the past six months) with a university degree in International Relations, European Studies, Humanitarian Action, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or another relevant field
- University course attendance in the past 12 months
- Previous experience with UN/EU bodies, relevant NGOs or government organizations will be an asset
- Strong grasp of social media platforms and social listening tools
- Experience with digital and social campaigns and tools
- Good computer skills: proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
- Basic design and video editing skills will be an asset
Required soft skills/WFP Competencies:
- Familiarity with EU and/or UN affairs as well as humanitarian and development aid
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Good organization and time management skills
- Proactive, can-do attitude
Working Languages
- Excellent command of English (oral and written) is required
- Working knowledge of French would be an asset
Training components
Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

Terms and Conditions:
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
- WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
- WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
