ACAPS Purpose

ACAPS is dedicated to improving analysis of humanitarian needs in complex emergencies and crises. We are independent of specific operational and sectoral agendas or interests, and therefore guarantee objective and evidence-based analysis. Our team supports the humanitarian community by providing up-to-date information on key crises around the globe. By bringing together different sources of secondary (and where appropriate primary) data and using robust methodologies, we move beyond descriptive analysis to explanatory and interpretive analysis: in other words, we enable data to tell us: so what? This enables crisis responders to better understand and thereby better address the needs of the affected population, and at the same time strengthening the assessment ecosystem

Positions:

ACAPS is looking for Data Analysts to fill multiple country-specific and regional roles. Analysts will be responsible for designing surveys, analysing results, producing high quality analysis tables, charts and dashboards and supporting engagement with network members, other ACAPS analysts and consultants to make the best possible use of incoming data. ACAPS is looking for a dynamic, flexible team player to help grow this innovative project. We are particularly looking for candidates who have experience with both primary and secondary data analysis methodologies as well as creating high quality analytical products. 

Competencies

  • Relevant university degree or higher education, preferably in IT, data science, statistics, information management, social sciences or economics
  • At least 2 years of experience of humanitarian information management. Extensive experience in undertaking and managing complex data management. Experience leading multi-sectorial, multi-agency assessments is a plus
  • Knowledge of data tagging and data based management; and sound skills on MS excel, SQL, Python or any other database management software
  • Knowledge of quantitative data analysis methods (Ability to use porotype data analysis software such as R, SPSS, STATA, or Python)
  • Strong data visualization skills including Geographic Information System (Sound knowledge on Power BI, Tabelue, Arc GIS or other Geospatial tools)
  • Sound knowledge on data collection tools and methodology for example KOBO, SMAP, etc
  • Fluent written and oral communication skills in English; Working knowledge of French, Arabic or Spanish – desired
  • Ability to make rapid decisions, sometimes with incomplete or imperfect information during a fast-changing situation .
