The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a position of HDP Information Management Officer.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

WFP is well known for its ability to deliver food assistance rapidly to people in need. In order to respond effectively in the challenging contexts in which WFP operates, staff require sound knowledge of the fundamentals of emergency and transition programming, as well as skills in specialized areas. The Emergencies and Transitions Unit (PRO-P) has been charged with leading efforts related to programming in emergencies and transitions out of conflict, including the integration of conflict sensitivity.  It is also supporting WFP’s engagement in the broader sustaining humanitarian development and peace agenda at the global level. In this context, PRO-P is seeking a consultant to support the information management work of the team.

ROLE OF THE CONSULTANT

 

 

The consultant will support the Humanitarian-Development-Peace related corporate and external reporting

  • As such the consultant will help to coordinate, collate and draft inputs for corporate and external reports, including the annual performance reporting exercise, in collaboration with colleagues in the team;
  • Stay abreast of ongoing work across workstreams to inform inputs for regular situation reports;
  • Collaborate with colleagues internally to ensure consistency in reporting around WFP’s HDP work, in particular the emerging work around peace and conflict;
  • Summarize and collate relevant information and data from media and internal and external sources to facilitate and maximize the exchange of information and data flow on topics related to HDP work and Peace and Conflict, in order to provide awareness and support analysis of issues/events relevant to the team’s work;
  • Attend and report on meetings related to HDP, as required.
  • Undertake relevant research to support evidence building around thematic areas (e.g. Climate Change, Resilience, Peacebuilding)

 

Content development, visualization and communication

  • Take the pen on relevant briefs and talking points to support WFP’s internal and external engagement around HDP;
  • Produce and update information products such as factsheets, charts and infographics to convey messages and a story-line for internal and external audiences;
  • Develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other visual materials, in collaboration with graphic designer;
  • Ensure synergies with other relevant staff and projects to ensure visibility of WFP’s HDP work on relevant internal and external platforms;
  • Ensure collaboration with the Knowledge Management team within the broader Emergencies and Transition’s Unit, to complement and feed efforts on knowledge capturing and dissemination;

Support to standing up learning/information platform

Working closely with the Nexus Operationalization Officer, the consultant will support the mapping and documentation of best practices around HDP with the aim to support sharing/cross fertilization of knowledge between operations and a regular information flow to donors, including the OECD DAC, through a dedicated HDP web platform. The consultant will also support the dissemination of guidance and tools through the platform. Finally, the consultant will ensure information sharing on Best Practices, guidance and tools with the KM team to ensure feeding of and consistency with corporate KM tools, channels and platforms at PRO-P level.

Data Management

The consultant will play a key role in developing and maintaining a user-friendly repository of key messages, facts and figures around various areas linking to WFP’s HDP strategy and peace and conflict work, using spreadsheets and other data tools. S/he will also serve as focal point for HDP related material at a corporate level.

KEY DELIVERABLES

 

  • WFP’s work on HDP featured systematically and coherently in internal and external reporting;
  • Corporate engagement and information sharing around the evolving discussions on HDP supported, including through timely preparation of briefs and talking points;
  • Internal and external awareness of WFP’s HDP work and ‘team offer’ promoted through attractive content;
  • Best practices around HDP mapped, documented and fed into learning platform;
  • Articulation/communication of operational models that reflect WFP’s Humanitarian-Development–Peace impact supported;
  • Repository of key messages, facts and figures around WFP’s HDP work developed and maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

 

Education:                  Advanced university degree in one of the following disciplines: International relations, development studies, conflict studies, political science, information management, journalism or other relevant field; or First University degree with additional related work experience and/or training/courses.

 

Experience:                At least 1 year of experience producing written content for internal and/or external audiences related to humanitarian, development and/or peace work. Knowledge of the evolving dialogue on HDP and the background to the ‘triple nexus’ and/or knowledge of WFP an advantage.

 

Techical Skills  

& Knowledge:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing skills, with ability to adapt style to a variety of internal and external audiences;
  • General knowledge of information management best practices, techniques and processes;
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly assimilate, WFP specific processes and systems;
  •   

 

Competencies:          

 

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, while managing multiple priorities simultaneously;
  • Initiative, enthusiasm, creativity and flexibility with excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit
  • Ability to plan and organize work with minimum supervision;

 

Languages:   

 

  • Fluency in oral and written English is a pre-requisite;
  • Knowledge of Arabic, Spanish, French is an advantage.

Working arrangements: The consultant will travel to the field as required.
