OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Asia-Pacific based in Bangkok Thailand, is seeking to hire an Assistant Programme Officer (Inclusive Basic Education) to join the Section for Inclusive Quality Education to contribute to the regional programme in the areas of inclusive education.  Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, the direct supervision and overall guidance of the Chief of Section Inclusive Quality Education (IQE), and daily guidance of the Team Leader of Inclusive Basic Education (IBE), the Assistant Programme Officer shall be responsible for assisting implementation, coordination and monitoring of the GPE COVID-19 accelerated funding project activities and other programme activities related to education for children with disabilities.

Long Description

Specifically, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  1. Implement and monitor the “GPE COVID-19 accelerated funding project.”  
    1. Assist with the administrative and programme-related duties
    2. Support the organization of project-related activities, including logistical preparations and documentation
    3. Prepare project monitoring reports (bi-monthly and six-monthly), maintain donor relations, develop project communication materials, and briefs, etc.
  1. Support the overall activities of the “Asia-Pacific Working Group on Disability-Inclusive Education” (under the Regional Thematic Working Group on Education 2030+) to promote inclusive and equitable quality education for children with disabilities across the Asia-Pacific region.
  1. Contribute in planning, implementing, coordinating and monitoring activities on education for children with disabilities in the region within the overall framework of inclusive education related strategies and work of UNESCO Bangkok.
  1. Undertake tasks involving inputs related to children with disabilities and inclusive education as directed by the Chief of Section.
  1. Perform additional tasks as required and assigned by the Section chief or the Office Director.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in the field of inclusive education, special needs education, teacher training, or related areas.

 

Work experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experiences in the field of inclusive education, special needs education, teacher training, learning material development of which at least one year at the regional/international level.
  • Experiences in implementing and coordinating multi-country projects.

Education

An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent and above) in the field of inclusive education, special needs education, teacher training, or related areas.

 

 Work experience

  • Demonstrated experiences in project management, implementation and monitoring.
  • Experiences in developing online learning programme and/or materials for teacher training

 

 Skills and competencies:

Good understanding of the Education 2030 Agenda


Languages
Knowledge of French and/or regional language will be an asset.
