SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

The Driver of the Project Office is responsible to ensure proper preparation of vehicles prior to any tip. He is required to handle and drive the vehicle in a responsible and careful way, ensuring adherence to SCA rules and the traffic law of the country. As carrier of SCA staff and goods the driver is also required to take security considerations seriously; arriving to destinations before darkness, avoiding potential danger spots such as unused roads (mines), crowds, military convoys, etc. The Driver reports to the Head Driver/Logistic Officer of the RMO.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Graduate from High School (12 class)

At least 2 or 3 years in a similar position, preferably with an NGO

Honest, active, well-mannered and Punctual

Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment

Being an Afghan citizen and local candidates are preferred

Main Responsibilities:

Promote an attitude of team spirit.

Develop good co-operation with SCA units, wash the vehicle and keep clean it all the time.

To fill in the vehicle logbook properly and do related job as delegated by the Head Driver/Logistic Officer.

To take care of assigned vehicle; prepare it for field trips (ensuring sufficient vehicle maintenance prior to trip, availability of spare tires, first-aid kits, snow-chains, etc), maintain it during trip (including secure parking) and clean the vehicle on completion of trip

To report to the Head Driver any accidents or malfunctions of the vehicle

To undertake long and short trips as required

To bring and take back the SCA staff before and after the office hours daily

To properly check oils and fuels of his vehicle during trip and when necessary undertake smaller repairs

To know and obey traffic rules and know the special rules of SCA (e.g. avoiding military convoys, not driving after dark, avoid potential mines [off-road driving], etc

To sign all the related document of his trip by related colleagues

To be helpful to the passenger within the limit of Transport/logistics rules and SCA Security Manual

To supply goods/cash to the project site with the help of suppliers

To report his arrival and departure from any regional offices or (KMO) to the Logistic Officer/Head Driver
