Psychologist/Stress Management Adviser

The general minimum requirements for working with the OSCE are:

• Excellent physical condition
• Possession of a valid automobile driving license and ability to drive using manual transmission
• Ability to cope with physical hardship and willingness to work extra hours and in an environment with limited infrastructure

The general minimum requirements for working in this field of expertise are:

• Demonstrable organizational skills
• Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Demonstrable interpersonal skills and documented experience in negotiations
• Depending on the field activity's mandate, significant prior experience in relevant fields such as international customs practices and procedures, law enforcement, and military observations and arms control may also be required
• Negotiating experience, preferably in the area of monitoring operations and/or related activities

Furthermore, this level of responsibility requires the following:

Education:

First-level university degree in clinical psychology/counselling or social work with a license (or equal) to provide psychological counselling or psychotherapy

Experience:

Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience

Additionally, this particular post has specific requirements:

Mandatory:

• At least six years of relevant professional experience;
• Experience and training in the following: conflict resolution/mediation, team building, and development of positive organizational culture;
• Professional fluency in the English language, with excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Ability to cope with physical hardship and willingness to work extra hours and in an environment with limited infrastructure; proven resilience to high stress environments;
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
• Ability to operate Windows applications including word processing and email, as well as other medical software.

Desirable:

• Working knowledge of Russian and/or Ukrainian language(s);
• Additional training or certification in related fields, such as: stress management, traumatic stress, conflict resolution, debriefing, teambuilding, alcohol/substance abuse, cross cultural psychology or psychiatry, etc.;
• Experience of working in Eastern Europe and/or knowledge of the region;
• Experience with the OSCE, UN common system and/or other international organizations.

Applicants are hereby notified that the Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) is designated by the OSCE as a nonfamily duty station. This designation is based on the fluid and dynamic working environment in the SMM. The currently prevailing working conditions in the duty station may include working in a hazardous location with extended hours of service, and possibly curtailed freedom of movement. Successful candidates who are appointed to locations deemed by the OSCE as hazardous will receive hazard pay. In addition, all successful candidates will be required to participate in the OSCE accident and life insurance scheme in accordance with the OSCE Staff Regulations and Staff Rules.

Please note that the selected candidate will be assigned to Luhansk region. The incumbent might be requested to travel within Ukraine.

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Psychologist/Stress Management Advisor, as Psychologist/Stress Management Adviser, you will provide psychological support to the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine's (SMM) staff.  More specifically, you will be responsible for the following:

1. Performing individual assessments and supporting in the case of Mission members experiencing difficulties coping and/or presenting mental health-related symptoms or syndromes;
2. Advising the Senior Psychologist/Stress Management Advisor as necessary, on individual and/or group cases where an identified problem is likely to have professional and personal effect (e.g. work-related problem due to a psychological problem, conflict resolution, etc.);
3. Working closely with Team and Hub Management as necessary, or upon request, with the aim of actively developing positive work/organizational culture in their teams;
4. Monitoring environmental factors that could lead to stress, with particular focus on stress related to critical incidents including emergency and crisis situations, with respect to all Mission members of the mission and advising Team and Hub Management on the appropriate measures to be taken; be involved in the Post Incident Procedure training;
5. Delivering stress management training, as well as resilience-building courses for all Mission members in the SMM;
6. Assuring, in conjunction with the Senior Psychologist/Stress Management Advisor, a continuum of services (referral, short-term supportive intervention) to Mission members, in case needed;
7. Performing other related tasks as assigned.
