Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

The overall objective of this mission is to is to provide guidance and build the capacity of the pillar to assume and meet data and information responsibilities. Support to the Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and Prevention and Control of Infection pillars will be defined according to the overall need for information at the sub-regional level. Collaboration and consultation with pillar members, the pillar coordinator and members of the subgroups is essential to the process. The main responsibilities at the national and regional levels are as follows:

  • Working with pillar members to identify information gaps at the national and regional levels and propose ways to fill these gaps.
  • Leading pillar planning and evaluation activities on behalf of pillar members.
  • Ensure that key concerns in the Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and Infection Prevention and Control (ICP) pillars are addressed in multi-sectoral assessments conducted by the Resident Coordinator's office/government.
  • Identify and adapt existing IM tools (e.g., the 4W Matrix), develop new ones if necessary, and assist pillar members in using these tools.
  • Build the capacity of pillar members through training and mentoring of IM processes, including data collection, storage and analysis to inform decision-making, advocacy, dissemination, etc.
  • Assist in formulating and providing regular inputs to UNICEF SitReps and UN system briefing notes in Mauritania.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Office of the Resident Coordinator and IMs in the other pillars to harmonize tools and share information as necessary.
  • Ensure adequate representation of the pillar in information assessment and management forums, including regular updating of existing information on the different platforms. Address other information management needs of the pillar, as identified by the Coordinator and member organizations.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Advanced university degree in computer science, statistics, GIS or other relevant fields,
  • Fluency in French. Good written and oral skills in English and knowledge of another UN language (Arabic) are an asse,
  • Experience in information management, evaluation and/or monitoring and evaluation in the UN and/or an NGO,
  • Experience of working in the emergency context is highly desirable,
  • Ability to work in a complex and fast-paced environment, produce quality work in a short period of time, within agreed deadlines and sometimes under pressure,
  • Knowledge of the context of Mauritanian and/or Sahel is an asset.
