Organizational Setting

The Information Technology Division (CIO) is responsible for all IT activities within the Organization. CIO performs on behalf of the Organization the following critical roles\: defining FAO IT policies and providing strategic advice on IT architecture and standards, governance, policy and operational matters while monitoring organizational compliance; defining the mechanisms for managing FAO’s information and data; protecting FAO’s information assets and ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability; ensuring provision of IT services that are core for the Organization’s global operations and supporting the information and business processes; coordinating organization-wide IT activities in order to reduce duplication and fragmentation and to increase integration of information data, systems and platforms, mobilizing IT resources from across the Organization.

Reporting Lines

Under the supervision of an IT Officer in the Digital Office Team, the incumbent will support capacity building in digital technologies in the Organization.

Technical Focus

Leadership of digital innovation projects, including country-level strategies. Support to regional and country-level digital initiatives; Capacity building of digital capabilities in FAO through webinars, workshops and seminars.

Tasks and responsibilities

The incumbent will work in the Digital Office team, which has an overall responsibility for digital strategy, governance and capacity building in digital technologies in support of FAO’s delivery. The incumbent will work within the team focused on Building Digital capacities and momentum across government, extension workers, farmers and other stakeholders.

More specifically, the incumbent will provide support for\:

  • Support global, regional and country-level digital initiatives, including assistance in assessments of gaps, opportunities and scale-up strategies in support of FAO’s priorities.
  • Support the development and operation of a network for digital practitioners in FAO; as well develop appropriate tools, platforms and processes to support knowledge exchange of knowledge and the building of a common body of digital knowledge for FAO.
  • Assist in identifying potential study areas related to the FAO Digital Portfolio, perform necessary research and develop knowledge products for review and finalization.
  • Perform research and analysis of the ecosystem surrounding specific digital agriculture product families and/or business domains, developing draft knowledge products for review and finalization.
  • Support the analysis and review process as part of the clearance of IT investments in assigned offices or regions.
  • Liaise with business units around FAO interested in digital matters, promoting the reuse of known solutions and the take-up of new innovative digital solutions, and organising ad-hoc capacity building sessions as required.
  • Support reaching the commitments made in MoU work plans or any similar arrangements with partners, liaising internally or with partners as needed.
  • Provide input to assist management in responding to UN or external requests for input on matters related to the digital domain.
  • Provide input to the review of internal documents or proposals on matters related to the digital domain.
  • Develop draft slides or draft speech text for presentations by senior FAO management related to the digital domain.
  • Lead or support the ideation, set-up and running of events from online Webinars through to workshops and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as required
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • Advanced university degree in (for Consultants) / University degree (only for PSA), University degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology related or any other relevant degree.
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian. (for PSA it can be required only one language)
  • Working Experience
    • For Consultants – 3 years of relevant professional working experience in similar environment
    • For PSA - 1 year of relevant professional working experience in similar environment
