Organizational Setting

Hand-in-Hand (HiH) initiative is an evidence‐based, country‐led and country­owned initiative to accelerate in priority Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 2, to eradicate poverty and hunger, through the use of the most sophisticated tools available, including advanced geospatial modeling and analytics. HiH aims to identify the biggest opportunities to raise the incomes and reduce the inequities and vulnerabilities of rural populations, who constitute the vast majority of the world's poor. The Geospatial Analyst working in the HiH Geospatial Analysis Lab plays a critical role. The HiH Geospatial Platform is operated by the Information Technology Division under the direction of the Organization’s Chief Economist

Fighting against hunger requires the best and most innovative analysts, committed to change the world for the most vulnerable people. The consultant has to be comfortable working under high pressure in a rapid-changing environment, being a self-learner and independent person.


Reporting Lines
The Geospatial Analyst reports to the Head of the Geospatial Unit of the Hand in Hand initiative.

Technical Focus

As a geospatial analyst working you will undertake geospatial analysis as requested by the Hand-in-Hand core and country teams. The work will be done in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams of economists, thematic experts and information technology specialist using the latest tools, technologies and techniques. Candidates will have passion for undertaking geospatial analysis to derive impactful insights and evidence-based decisions and concrete experience in\:

  • Cloud and Standalone GIS Applications (opensource and commercial). Experience with QGIS, ESRI and Google Earth Engine an advantage,
  • Geospatial standards and protocols.
  • Geospatial data acquisition, processing and publication (manual and automated)
  • Satellite image processing and remote sensing
  • Geospatial modelling
  • Statistics and machine learning.
Tasks and responsibilities

The geospatial analyst will perform the following duties\:

  • Participate in an agile multi-disciplinary geospatial analysis lab that delivers real solutions in the shortest time.
  • Prepare publication quality digital maps registered in the geospatial data catalogue with appropriate and compliant metadata.
  • Mainstream geospatial best practices and innovative techniques.
  • Identify core and most suitable data and surrogates. Review data quality and methodological approaches.
  • Build geospatial models.
  • Apply machine learning techniques.
  • Identify hotspots as defined by HiH teams needs using geospatial multicriteria decision analysis.
  • Prepare evidence-based reports to support geospatial analysis

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

For consultants\:
  • University degree or equivalent in GIS, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Data Science, Computer Science, IT engineering.

- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian.

- At least 1 year of professional experience working with demonstrable geospatial analysis and conclusions .

For PSAs\:

- University Degree or equivalent technical experience in the subject.

- Working knowledge of English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian.

- At least 1 year of professional experience working with demonstrable geospatial analysis and conclusions .
