Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Corporate Alliances Specialist, the UN Volunteer will provide critical support to the implementation of planned and upcoming activities of the project on “Promoting Children’s Rights and Business Principles among Enterprises in Vietnam (CRBP Project)” with the Vietnam Chambers of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and partners. The UN Volunteer will also support the roll out of UNICEF’s global initiative “Business for Results (B4R)[1]”.

More specifically the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Review and provide inputs to various project planning and implementation related documents shared by VCCI and partners under the CRBP Project.
  • Monitor the implementation of CRBP Project activities and objectives listed in the workplan and ensuring that the activities are conducted in a timely manner and according to the workplan and budgets.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of activities of the Work No Child’s Business Project focussing on engagement with the business sector to prevent child labour, protect and empower young workers[2].
  • Document project related lessons, best practices and success stories; collect and compile required information for project implementation, monitoring and evaluation; ensuring that all supporting documents are maintained; an orderly filing system is in place; and taking meeting and workshop minutes.
  • Research, assess and monitor the market to identify opportunities for partnerships with the business sector to achieve programmatic results as guided by the global Business for Results initiative.
  • Support the Corporate Alliances Specialist and Programme Sections to manage and nurture relationship with strategic corporate partners to test and scale solutions in workplace (example: parenting trainings in workplace)
  • Support the roll out of the UNICEF’s global “Business for Results (B4R)” initiative through internal awareness raising, capacity building, due-diligence and research to identify opportunities for prospective partnerships with business (strategic companies / business or industry association/ business consulting).
  • Support the collaboration with UN agencies (UN working group on Business and Human Rights), and represent UNICEF in external meetings, as required.
  • Perform other duties, as required according to the request of the Corporate Alliances Specialist.
  • While major decisions are made by the supervisor, the UN Volunteer will work with supervision, but given flexibility in seizing opportunities to manage current partnerships and expand partnerships. The incumbent is to take initiatives and exercise judgment in carrying out the responsibilities and refer to the supervisor on any action that may set a precedent or deviate from the regular work processes.

[1] Business for Results seeks to go beyond business engagement and partnership for resource mobilization or procurement across all Offices—UNICEF and National Committees. The aim is to unlock the potential of business as a change agent for children, embedding business as a stakeholder in our country programmes. The scope of Business for Results is all UNICEF’s engagement with the business world, which includes corporations (ranging from small enterprises and community-level entrepreneurs to the largest global multinationals); aggregators such as multi-stakeholder platforms and industry bodies; business leaders as personal influencers and / or philanthropists; corporate foundations; and links with the public sector (including links to public policy). It includes but goes beyond bilateral partnership and procurement relationships with individual corporations.

[2] Work No Child’s Business (WNCB) Project activities (outcome 3) relating to business engagement are implemented under the Programme Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between UNICEF and VCCI’s CRBP Project.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • ​Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Corporate Social Responsibility, Social sciences with a focus on human rights or children’s rights or another relevant field; or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field(s) plus 5 years of relevant experience.
Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

​Advanced University degree with minimum 3 years of professional experience in relevant field(s); or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field(s) plus 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in programme/project development and management with focus on human rights and children’s rights, corporate social responsibility, supply chain/value chain management, business sustainability, corporate partnerships and communications;
  • Sound and up-to-date knowledge of corporate partnership management and corporate social responsibility, as well as sustainability;
  • Experience in engaging or working with the business sector;
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and organization skills;
  • Experience in documenting success stories, lessons learnt and best practices, is an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle complex tasks and workload.
