Technical Officer – Violence & Injuries Prevention

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

During deployment, the duties may be modified, based upon the technical needs of the Programme.

Reporting to the Technical Cluster at the Regional level, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Provide technical support to Member States to develop and implement national policies, plans and programmes to prevent violence against children and women (including gender-based violence), and traffic injuries and deaths
  • Build the capacity of national officials and country staff to develop and implement national policies, legislation, strategies, programmes, and initiatives on violence and injury prevention
  • Provide guidance on the prevention of violence against children and women (including against gender-based violence) and on road safety and sustainable transportation interventions
  • Document and disseminate best practices on injury prevention, road safety and mobility through the WHO website, factsheets, policy briefs and other publications; and where appropriate through meetings, workshops and conferences.
  • Provide technical input into the global road safety status survey and report and other surveys
  • Collaborate with relevant Teams within AFRO, HQ and other partners in road safety, documenting and disseminating best practices on Prevention of Injuries and Violence
  • Collaborate on cross-cluster initiatives on violence and injury prevention within WHO/AFRO, HQ and Country Offices
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

  • First University Degree in Social science, Health Promotion, Public health, Health Policy, Health Education, or Injuries’ prevention.
Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

Essential

  • At least 3 -5 years of work experience in prevention of violence or experience in implementing programmes/interventions on gender-based violence and violence against children or other relevant public health experience.
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Fluent
  • Portuguese(Optional), Level - Fluent

Computer skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.

Functional Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical and programmatic knowledge of Prevention of Violence against children and women
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear advice and guidance to multiple stakeholders and partners on the prevention of injury and violence
  • Broad knowledge of public health.
