The International Renewable Energy Agency is an inter-governmental organisation headquartered in Abu Dhabi, mandated to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. IRENA’s mission is to play a leading role in the ongoing transformation of the global energy systems as a centre of excellence for knowledge and innovation, a global voice of renewable energy, a network hub for all stakeholders and a source of advice and support for countries.  At present, IRENA has 161 Members (160 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 22 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged.
 

IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technologies and equipment overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint RD&D and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy.

 
 

Assignment and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, IITC, the Programme Officer, Green Gas Delivery and Use, P-4 will\:

  • Lead IITC activities in the field of green gases;
  • Conduct and perform analytical work on greening the existing gas infrastructure;
  • Conduct and deliver technical and economic analysis of green gas applications (hydrogen, biomethane, synthetic natural gas)
  • Contribute to the dialogue with the natural gas industry on RE and natural gas complementarities and competition;
  • Provide technical assistance to member countries that want to develop national gas system transition roadmaps and investment plans
  • Establish and expand a network of partners for collaboration at the international, regional and national level and develop an active presence in the relevant field;
  • Initiate and coordinate outreach activities; conduct training workshops, seminars, etc.; make presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Organize and prepare written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.;
  • Coordinate activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, etc.) and prepare related documents/reports (work programme, programme budget, etc.).
  • Represent the agency at various meetings;
  • Assist in the mobilization of voluntary contributions;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
 

Education\: Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in engineering, commercial law, or other relevant field related to energy. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience\: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the relevant sector (gas), some of which should be at the international level is required. Project Management experience is required. Experience in international cooperation and in dealing with international negotiation processes, multilateral agencies, networks and forums is desired.
Language\: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
