Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Iraq is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Iraq CPF 2018-2022... It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Rep Iraq, the technical supervision of the Chief LEGN, and in close collaboration with the veterinary experts, the LTO and the national project team.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Familiarize with the national legislation collected and submitted by the national legal consultant, as well as with the legal system of Iraq;
  • Familiarize with the international guidance documents on animal health legislation, including the terrestrial animal health code and more specifically its chapters 3.4, 3.1 and 3.2, as well as with the documents, model reports, and legislation provided by the Legal Office;
  • Support, revise and complement as necessary the national legal report prepared by the national legal consultant. Include or strengthen a part with an evaluation of national legislation against the international reference standards and best practices. Finalize the national legal report and submit it to the Legal Office for clearance;
  • Based on the results of the national legal report, formulate concrete recommendations to revise the national legislation;
  • Travel to Bagdad and participate in a workshop to present and discuss the results of the national legal report and to prepare an action plan for its revision and update. Contribute to the report of the workshop and the action plan. Submit a mission report;
  • Translate brief texts from Arabic to English and vice versa as necessary;
  • Provide support to the project team as necessary in matters related to animal health legislation;
  • Support the drafting of the terminal report.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • University degree in Law;
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience on agriculture, veterinary legislation or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of English and Arabic.
