Description of task

Under the overall supervision of UN Women WCARO Policy Adviser for Peace & Security and Humanitarian Action, the project coordinator will be responsible for the following key Functions:

  1. Strategic direction and technical management of the project
  • Provide technical and strategic assistance to project activities, including planning, implementing and monitoring, and ensure quality control of interventions;
  • Provide practical support to country offices and implementing partners in the areas of project management and planning, field activity implementation and management, as well as monitoring and evaluation of the project impacts;
  • Develop terms of reference of consultants and subcontractors, and assist in the selection and recruitment process and provide technical supervision of the work carried out by the experts and consultants hired by the project;
  • Advising on political and legal issues concerning the project;
  • Ensure the preparation and revision of the project annual plan of Action;
  • Inform the regional adviser of the progress of the project, according to the mechanisms and frequency established in the project document;
  • Represent the project at regional and national levels;
  • Record and maintain documents on relevant Programme activities, issues, and risks.
  1. Ensure quality project coordination, implementation at regional level and timely donor reporting
  • Coordinate relationships with partners to support implementation and expansion of the projects, raise potential problems and suggest solutions;
  • Identify capacity building needs and support partners through technical assistance, mentoring, training and capacity development initiatives as needed.
  • Collect information from country offices and ensure the timely submission of quality progress reports and donor reports as well as the other reporting documents (multi-year, annual, quarterly, operational, reports);
  • Contribute to strategic connection, result-based reporting and knowledge management with global Women’s Resilience to Disasters and Crisis program and support strategic cooperation particularly between the Sahel Resilience Programme and thePromoting women’s resilience in the Lake Chad Basin Region” programme” in joint cooperation with the Sahel Resilience Programme Coordinator.
  • Gather and compile all information necessary for monitoring and reporting on program and projects from the planning to the evaluation stages;
  • Monitor the implementation of activities and the expenditure of funds; conduct regular monitoring visits, as required;
  • Draft and provide inputs to annual and quarterly reports; coordinate the submission of implementing partner financial and narrative reports;
  • Establish systems for project planning, implementation and monitoring, in collaboration with partners and UNWOMEN country offices;
  • Provide inputs from the project to the regional report.

  1. Networking, partnership building and resource mobilization

  • Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with government counterparts, UN Agencies and regional stakeholders through active sharing of information and knowledge to facilitate program implementation and build the capacity of stakeholders to achieve and sustain results.

  • Draft communication and advocacy materials to promote awareness, establish partnerships/alliances, ensure visibility and support resource mobilization on issues related to gender-responsive DRR and humanitarian action and crisis response under the broader umbrella of promoting women’s resilience in the Lake Chad Basin Region.
  • Participate in inter-agency meetings/events on programming to collaborate with inter-agency partners/colleagues on joint planning and preparation of joint regional, DRR and humanitarian action-crisis response related projects.
  • Research information on potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials and briefs for fundraising and partnership development purposes.

  1. Advocate and facilitate knowledge building and management and communication
  • Participate in the development of a LCB resilience proramme knowledge management and communications strategy to guide relevant activities contribute to enhanced knowledge sharing and increased visibility of UN Women’s programmatic interventions.
  • Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development and to build the capacity of stakeholders.
  • Apply innovative approaches and promote good practice to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable program results.
  • Research, benchmark and report on best and cutting-edge practices for development planning of knowledge products and systems.
  • Participate as a resource person in capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients/stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings and policy dialogues on issues related to resilience and humanitarian action in the Lake Chad Basin.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced University degree in social sciences, law, international relations, Gender Studies or other related field, or equivalent

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in managing complex and multi-component programme interventions with national/regional partners, preferably related to gender, disaster resilience and humanitarian affairs;

Language skills:

Area of expertise: Development programme/project administration, Development programme management, Emergency response, immediate relief operations, and post-conflict humanitarian aid operations Area of expertise details:

Experience in joint programming and working with different partners;

Experience in Africa and particularly the Lake Chad Basin;

Experience in developing program documents on gender equality and gender mainstreaming in peace & security and humanitarian processes
