ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING

 

As the only specialized organization with the mandate to support educational policy, planning and management, the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) plays a unique role within the United Nations system. IIEP was established in 1963 as an integral part of UNESCO. It supports ministries of education around the world and other key actors to plan and manage education systems through its programmes of training, technical assistance, policy research and knowledge sharing. IIEP also includes the IIEP Pole de Dakar and Buenos Aires Offices.

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

This position is located in the Information Services Unit of the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) in Paris and reports to the Information Services Team Leader.
Under the supervision of the Team leader and in close collaboration with the Web Manager, the incumbent is responsible for IIEP core social media accounts (Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook) and mass mailing campaigns. The incumbent contributes to designing, updating and implementing IIEP social media strategy with a view to strengthen IIEP presence on social media and build strong communities of concern. The incumbent also contributes to maintaining, updating and improving IIEP websites, in coordination with the Web Manager.
The incumbent will work in a collaborative team environment to achieve the following objectives:


1. Social Media Management

  • With the support of the Web manager and Information Services Team Leader, the incumbent designs and implements IIEP social media strategy with a view to strengthen IIEP digital presence and build strong communities of concern. The incumbent monitors and analyzes reach and impact, notably towards IIEP key audiences.
  • The incumbent develops a consistent editorial approach for all IIEP social media accounts, closely monitoring online discussions, addressing and preventing potential risk to IIEP image and reputation, and engaging proactively with IIEP target audiences.
  • The incumbent liaises with IIEP regional offices in Dakar and Buenos Aires for all social media-related matters to ensure coherence and provide for a balanced representation and visibility of all IIEP Offices and activities. The incumbent takes action to build on IIEP staff social media presence, encouraging them to promote IIEP content.

2. Reporting

  • The incumbent drafts monthly and yearly reports on IIEP digital activities and assesses progress on agreed targets over time.
  • The incumbent contributes to the definition of KPIs, ensures objectives are met and proposes corrective measures when needed.

3. Content Development & Dissemination

  • The incumbent develops attractive and impactful content (including infographics, videos, etc.) and campaigns for social media on a daily basis.
  • The incumbent contributes actively to IIEP public communication activities and global advocacy campaigns with a view to enhancing visibility, impact and relevance.
  • The incumbent manages and ensures a targeted distribution of IIEP public communication material, via emailing and Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM) once launched.
  • The incumbent contributes to gathering relevant contacts and updating distribution lists on a regular basis, together with other Information Services team members, in order to expand IIEP reach towards key audiences.

4.Organization of Events

  • The incumbent actively supports the effective organization and promotion of IIEP online (webinars, strategic debates, etc.) and offline events.
  • The incumbent proposes improvements for greater visibility and impact, notably on social media.

Education

  • Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Communications, Information Systems, Journalism or other related field.

 Work Experience

  • A minimum of two years of experience in the field of digital communication, social media strategy, web development and management. 
  • Experience in producing and analysing social media metrics to inform strategy and work plans.
  • Experience within a multicultural environment.

 Skills and Competencies

•    Excellent knowledge of Drupal, WordPress or similar content management system and in mounting digital campaigns.
•    Excellent knowledge of the social media landscape, including trends in new tools and platforms.
•    Very good multimedia production and web designs skills, and use of tools such as  Adobe Suite. Proven ability to develop and manage web and social media content.
•    Good writing skills; ability to write and edit social media posts without supervision.
•    Capacity to organize and manage online events (webinars, live streams, etc.).
•    Good knowledge of mass mailing campaigns and tools (including Campaign Monitor); experience designing and managing databases.
•    Innovation and ability to adapt to new technologies. 
•    Teamwork and strong interpersonal skills.

 Languages

  •  Excellent knowledge ( written and oral) of English or French and very good knowledge of the other. 


 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience

  • Experience working in the United Nations system.

Languages

  • Knowledge of Spanish.
