Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Reporting directly to the regional Communications Associate for Arab States, the National UN Volunteer will:

  • Assist the development and implementation of the annual communications work-plan and editorial calendar in line with corporate guidelines and regional priorities;
  • Create and enhance existing communications materials, including brochures, two-pagers, snapshots, country briefs, newsletter, and other internal and external communications materials;
  • Create, maintain and expand social media accounts of ROAS, including on Twitter, Facebook and possibly Instagram; through production and posting of a diverse range of social media products, moderating conversations and comments, and keeping track of social media analytics;
  • Design and produce visual materials, including social media cards, banners, and infographics, according to corporate branding guidelines;
  • Produce audio-visual materials, such as videos, podcasts and handle photo assets;
  • Design and implement social media campaigns promoting UNV and the contributions of UN Volunteers to SDGs, with priority partners and/or within priority thematic areas in the region;
  • Contribute to regional-level design, customization and implementation of HQ-led communication plans for campaigns and events promoting volunteerism, including the Global Technical Meeting on volunteering (GTM 2020), and the International Volunteers Day (IVD);
  • Support preparations for RO public events such as panel discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews, etc.
  • Support Field Units in ROAS in the delivery of their country-level communications activities relevant to the above tasks;
  • Perform any other related tasks or duties as may be required.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, multimedia production or relevant field.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in communications;
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and proven experience in social media outreach (campaigns and daily management);
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Arabic;
  • Proficiency in design and video editing is required – proficiency in photography and/or videography is an asset;
  • Previous experience in the UN system and/or in development is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
