Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Provide anesthesia for surgeries related to deformities after injuries, such as road traffic accidents, repair injuries;
  • Monitor medical instruments and equipment to ensure that aseptic and antiseptic methods are adhered to;
  • Advise on kind and quantity of supplies and equipment necessary;
  • Coordinate surgery services with other medical activities;
  • Refer staff to outside specialists as necessary;
  • Follow-up with outside specialists;
  • Assist the Chief Medical Officer to ensure availability of supplies and proper functioning of medical equipment;
  • Frequently interact with staff members, staff of the working unit, staff counselors, senior management;
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Degree Level/Type of degree: Advanced university degree in anesthesiology. Critical care training will be an added advantage.

Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark:
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible practical experience in anesthesiology after specialty training.
  • Extensive experience in managing anesthesia for trauma and orthopedic cases.
  • Experience in the UN setup or International exposure in similar environment is required.
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise: Specialized human medicine (with clinical experience) Area of expertise details:
  • Computer skills: Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word); other IT applications and office technology equipment;
  • Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
