Project Engineer

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Programme Management Officer and/or Regional Team Leader and under the overall guidance of the Director of Stabilization and Recovery section, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following task:

  • Plan and supervise different types of civil engineering works (building, small roads, water and sanitation facilities, electrical works, etc.) and prepare respective project documents and programmes;
  • Supervise teams of international and local construction workers for cost-efficient and cost-effective delivery of services;
  • Conduct preliminary site visit and investigation to obtain field data such as soil characteristics and availability of existing service facilities such as road network, water services electricity and generators, drainage systems etc. and other data required for project evaluation and implementation.
  • Prepare or assist partners for the preparation of technical specification, sketch and plans, projects documents, contracts, etc. taking into account the local uses and construction codes, national and international laws, regulations and standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to implementing partners, contractors, national and international organizations, mission section/component on project design, monitoring and evaluation to ensure correct implementation.
  • Prepare and revise budget for purchase of equipment, materials and different type of works, including scrutinizing requisitions for equipment and material;
  • Supervise contractors and implementing partners completing projects to ensure cost- effective and efficient delivery of agreed outcomes;
  • Regularly monitor performance of project implementing partners and provide technical advices and guidance as required;
  • Prepare comprehensive progress report of projects. Verify progress of works against budget/fund and recommend for release of payment accordingly;
  • Provide technical evaluation and monitoring of Mission funded projects or project executed by the Mission (QIPs and others);
  • Liaise regularly with all stakeholders in successful implementation of the projects;
  • Design and/or maintain database of information on projects and programs.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the direct supervisor;
  • When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, the incumbent should set aside dedicated time for training, coaching, mentoring and capacity development;
  • Any other related duties (within the area of operations).
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Master’s degree in civil engineering or related field is required.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in the implementation of engineering projects in the field. Working experience with UN is an asset. Knowledge of Project and program management and

AutoCAD are required.

Language skills:
