Livelihoods Support Assistant

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Livelihoods Component Lead, and direct supervision of the Livelihoods Support Officer, the UNV will provides support in management of grants, and partnerships and implementation of donor funding. She/he also provides assistance in day to day project management, performing a variety of standard administrative tasks ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. She/he works in close collaboration with the Livelihoods Team members, with other ICRRP teams including the ICRRP Project Implementation Support unit. The UNV [Livelihoods Support Assistant] will:

  • Support the development of projects with partners, including by writing TORs, prepare internal cost estimates for livelihood activities, and support the work of bid evaluation panels;
  • Contribute to preparation of Responsible Party Agreement (RPA) packages, Request for Proposals (RFPs) or other bidding documents;
  • Work with NGO and government partners to contribute to improved planning and implementation of their activities.
  • Monitor the implementation of ongoing projects to ensure quality, timely progress, and meeting of targeted outputs. This includes field visits to projects implemented throughout Iraq, preparing monitoring reports, and contributing to donor reporting, as well as support to the Monitoring & Evaluation requirements of ICRRP livelihood component activities.
  • Liaise closely with implementing partner focal points to schedule and update the component team on quality assurance activities.
  • Review implementing partners’ reports to ensure on-time, quality reports so that beneficiaries can be accurately counted/tracked, and reports can be produced for donors.
  • Conduct impact assessments and assist with data analysis for impact reports.
  • Maintain and update livelihoods database and datasheets monthly.
  • Support various assessments (needs assessments, market assessments) related to ICRRP livelihoods component.
  • Support the Emergency Livelihoods Cluster activities as needed.
  • Coordinate with partner UN agencies on livelihoods related subjects.
  • Undertake tasks related to development and implementation of ICRRP livelihood component activities.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Master’s Degree in economics, development economics, political science, agriculture, interational development, social sciences or related field; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in economics, development economics, political science, agriculture, interational development, social sciences or related field.
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience for Master degree holders and 4 years for Bachelor degree holders in the design and implementation of employment/livelihoods recovery projects/programme.
  • Proven experience of working with national or international-development NGOs or UN agencies is required.
  • Proven experience of livelihoods programming in post conflict contexts is required. Experience in Iraqi context would be an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of result-based management and project implementation is an asset;
  • Good analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Desirable: valid national driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual gear 4x4 over rough terrain; (if not applicable, delete)
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in UNDP’s work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
