Communications Assistant - Project Cidade 50-50: Itabira

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Leadership, Governance and Global Norms Project Manager and under the guidance of the Communications Advisor, the Communications Assistant – Project Cidade 50-50: Itabira will:

  • Participate in preparing, organizing and reporting of UN Women events, as well as high profile meetings with government and development partners.
  • Adapt and disseminate communication and advocacy materials, press releases, audio-visual products and relevant information to all relevant recipients.
  • Regularly draft updates to the country office website, and social medias (Facebook, Twitter) to reflect UN Women activities in Itabira. Assist in UN Women digital activities, ensuring high-quality presence in social media and multimedia (design, adaptation, video/audio products development, social media analytics and promotion tools);
  • Provide support to UN Women communications team with drafting information materials and knowledge products for public outreach; ensure proper storage and issuance of the knowledge products and promo materials;
  • Organize press conferences, interviews and maintain regular contacts with the Communication Advisor. Share information and respond to requests for information and assistance. Update and maintain the database of media contacts.
  • Support UN Women officials' visits; arrange related press conferences and interviews on radio and TV program, as and when necessary.
  • Work with vendors to ensure high quality of produced publications, visibility materials and other collateral products
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

A higher technical diploma or bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communications/ Journalism / Public Relations or related field from an accredited institution.

Master/University degree in Mass Communication and Media is and advantage.

Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • At least 2 years of experience in communications support at the national and/or international level, ideally including a specialized experience in the areas of government public relations information, communication or journalism.
  • Experience in event management, online outreach and multimedia would be an asset.
  • Experience in usage of digital media software, databases and office software packages
  • Knowledge of/Experience in the UN or other international development organization would be an asset
Language skills:
  • Portuguese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
Area of expertise: Public information and reporting, Knowledge management, archiving and documentation, Other communications related experience Area of expertise details:
  • Good background in communication sciences, adequate knowledge of using media tools, good editorial, article writing and reporting skills. Ability to communicate in a credible and effective way. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting skills. Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Adaptability and ability to move forward in a changing environment.
  • Ability to produce high quality results within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build, promote and sustain partnerships across the Organization and beyond.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment).
  • Use of publishing and design software packages (Macromedia, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premier (or equivalent, MS Publisher, web editor, and similar applications) would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of photo editing software and keen eye for photography would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of gender equality and women’s human rights would be an asset
  • Have affinity with or interest in UN Women, volunteerism as a mechanism for sustainable development, and the UN System.
