Intern - Strategic Communications

ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING OF THE POSITION

The Intern will work with the members of the Communications Team at the Department of Strategic Communication at IDLO Headquarters in Rome. The team reports to the Director of Strategic Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Intern will be asked to perform the following duties:

  • Support in the production and distribution of internal and external communication products;
  • Support in research and fact collection;
  • Support layout, design and dissemination process for publications and knowledge products; 
  • Support in the production of digital products; videos, infographics, social media cards, GIFs etc.;
  • Support in the maintenance and updating of content of the IDLO website; 
  • Support in manual and software-based monitoring of international media and of national media in countries with active IDLO programs;
  • Support in monitoring social media for posts, mentions, tags and comments relevant to IDLO;
  • Support the planning, organization, logistics and implementation of conferences, institutional and governance meetings, and institutional events and publication launches;
  • Support in the production and distribution of mailings and newsletters;
  • Maintain detailed contact lists, media lists and the institutional stakeholder contact database;
  • Format program reports, event reports, factsheets and other communications materials to conform with IDLO branding requirements;
  • Assist in fact collection and drafting of external written communication items; press releases, as well as formal communications to Member Parties, Partners diplomatic missions, UN agencies etc.;
  • Conduct research into relevant topics and distill information for written documents and digital products for internal and external communication;
  • Assist with producing drafts of written communications materials for internal and external use, such as concept notes, briefings, factsheets, digital mailings and social media;
  • Assist with the procurement and commissioning of external services;
  • Provide cover for other team members;
  • Perform administrative tasks and other similar duties as requested by the Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, social sciences or related field required;
  • Graduate degree an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, additional language skills such as Italian, French or Spanish an advantage.

Technical competencies

  • Excellent writing, research, organization and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience with visual communications (design, graphics, photography, video) 
  • Familiarity with a range of social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc.;
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks under time constraints;

Behavioural competencies

  • Good team player, positive attitude, flexible mind, comfortable in working in multi-cultural settings;
  • Openness to change and ability to work in transitional and complex organizational situations;
  • Keen sense of ethics, integrity and commitment to IDLO's mandate.

Terms and conditions

IDLO provides all full-time interns with a monthly stipend of €600. Internships are offered for 3 months renewable up to 6 months.
