Job Description
The half-time (20 hours per week) Health Educator collaborates with IRC staff to replicate the Health Improvement Project (HIPTeens), a pregnancy prevention program that has been proven effective through rigorous evaluation (https://teenhealthpartners.org/). The Health Educator is primarily responsible for implementing the HIPTeens curriculum with refugee girls aged 15 and 16 years. The Health Educator will work with staff from the Health and Wellness, and Youth Teams. Major Responsibilities: Participates in project team trainings, with HIPTeens curriculum developer Collaborates in developing curriculum adaptations in order to achieve the expected learning outcomes; final adaptations will be approved by the HIPTeens developer Leads implementation of three (3) consecutive curriculum replications through December 2020 Completes and submits health educator session feedback, logs and audio session logs on a weekly basis Participates in weekly team meetings to debrief on project implementation Assists with supervision of youth curriculum assistants Participates in trainings conducted by MITRE, the project contractor Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Work Experience: 1-2 years demonstrated responsibilities in Health Education, Social Work, Nursing, Public Health, International Health or an equivalent field of study Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Ability to build strong mentoring relationships with youth and provide guidance while respecting the self-determination of all clients Experience working with refugee or foreign-born youth preferred Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills Reliable, professional, resourceful, team-oriented and sensitive to cultural differences Able to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, social services, or related field or a graduate degree Working Environment: All 15 curriculum sessions will be held on Saturdays at the IRC in Atlanta office. The Health Educator can either attend weekly project meeting in person or via phone.
