Scope/job purpose:

This position is a support position to the Almadarbah MHT, as part of a larger primary health care intervention that includes maternal and child health.

Detailed responsibilities and tasks:

A midwife has a range of responsibilities, including the care of mother and baby, adhering to hospital policy and maintaining an awareness of issues such as health and safety. Duties include:

·diagnosing, monitoring and examining women during pregnancy;

·providing full antenatal care, including screening tests in the hospital, community and the home;

·identifying high risk pregnancies and making referrals to doctors and other medical specialists;

·providing counselling and advice before and after screening and tests;

·offering support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;

·supervising and assisting mothers in labour, monitoring the condition of the fetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain management;

·giving support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding, bathing and making up feeds;

·engaging in professional development to meet PREP (post-registration education and practice) requirements;

·examining and monitoring pregnant women

·assessing care requirements/writing care plans

·undertaking antenatal care in hospitals, homes and GP practices

·taking patient samples, pulses, temperatures and blood pressures

·caring for and assisting women in labour

·advising about and supporting parents in the daily care of their newborn babies

·Writing records.


Qualifications

Required qualification and experience

wHealth Professional (Midwife) with at least five years of experience practicing MCH.

wAt least 3 years humanitarian project management experience.

wAbility to deal with emotionally charged situations

wExcellent team working skills

wInterpersonal and communication skills

wStrong observational skills

wAn interest in the process of pregnancy and birth.

wExcellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Power-point, Epi-Info/SPSS, Outlook and the internet.

wStrong communication skills, including excellent English (spoken and written).

wAbility and willingness to work in remote and insecure environments
