Job Description
The Community Outreach Intern will assist the West Texas Office for Refugees director with tasks related to raising awareness of the office in Texas Region 1 (Abilene, Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa). COMMITMENT: Hours are flexible, but preferably at least 15 hours per week, Monday - Friday between 8:30 am and 4 pm. RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct a stakeholder analysis of Texas Region 1 Conduct field experiences and targeted interviews with clients, staff, and community partners for stakeholder analysis Develop a one page West Texas Office for Refugees fact sheet/infographic and other templates for data reporting and fact sheets Assist with the development and implementation of monthly e-newsletter Research and draft at least two updates per month for inclusion in the Texas Region 1 monthly e-newsletter Assist program manager with the development of monthly training Assist with researching grant opportunities and guidelines from foundations as time permits Other relevant duties as assigned LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The intern will gain professional experience in community engagement and program design and delivery. The intern will deepen understanding of current community engagement, refugee resettlement, and US immigration topics and practices. The intern will gain experience with methods and for gathering and sharing best practices; developing and implementing trainings and tools; and managing a diverse national network.
Qualifications
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential; Prior experience in a non-profit setting and with refugees beneficial, but not required; Strong computer skills; Ability to take initiative and work independently; Must be comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment; Flexibility and ability to juggle multiple tasks successfully. This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.
