Our team and mission

The Corporate Development Office is responsible for developing and updating a coherent ESA corporate strategy encompassing the elaboration and updating of the Agency's Long-Term Plan (LTP) and Corporate Development Plan.

The Office prepares and supports their implementation through networking and coordination activities, developing and implementing Agency-wide policies, as well as specific actions notably in the areas of corporate Knowledge Management (KM) and Corporate Responsibility (CR) targeting the Agency’s sustainable and responsible development. It is also responsible for monitoring Agency-wide implementation of planning, through a coherent performance management system, and for implementing corporate Risk Management as defined by the Risk Management Policy in force.

The Office is divided into three areas of activity:

  • Corporate Strategy, in charge of preparing the Long-Term Plan and Corporate Development Plan and implementing corporate Risk Management;
  • Performance and Corporate Responsibility, in charge of establishing an Agency-wide system for performance measurement and defining CR activities and relevant policies;
  • Corporate Knowledge Management, team in charge of defining and implementing a corporate KM process and governance model and supporting their implementation across the Agency.

Field(s) of activity
  • Supporting the definition of the Corporate Strategic Plan, building on ESA's corporate culture and identity and including actions and policies to be put in place to implement that strategy;
  • Providing input for a coherent corporate strategy, based on the Director General's vision and ESA long-term objectives and in line with the guiding principles for the management of the Agency
  • Contributing to implementation of an Agency-wide performance management system based on performance indicators cascaded at all levels;
  • Supporting the updating and monitoring of Agency-wide key performance indicators;
  • Contributing to implementation of a periodical Observatory of Performance Management (mainly focused on KPIs) at selected organisations related to the space sector or the public international sector. Its objective: identify a set of appropriate organisations to be compared to ESA, perform benchmarking of the status of performance management at those organisations and access the pool of KPI definition and data; 
  • Assessing the financial resources needed to ensure complete and consistent implementation of corporate strategy, including planning for their allocation, in close coordination with corporate and Programme Directorates;
  • Supporting strategic research projects with academia in the framework of ESA_Lab@ initiatives

You should have just completed, or be in the final year of a university course at Master's level (or equivalent) in a technical or scientific discipline. In addition, relevant background in business and administration would be an asset.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

You should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team as well as good planning and analytical skills and attention to details.
