Post
Young Graduate Trainee for CubeSat Systems Engineering

This post is classified F1.

Location

ESA Headquarters, Paris, France

Our team and mission

The ESA Academy, a part of the ESA Education Office, is the agency’s overarching programme for University students from ESA Member States, Canada and Slovenia. Through a tailored transfer of space know-how and interaction with space professionals the Academy takes students through a learning path that complements their academic education.

The ESA Academy operates two interconnected pillars of activity: Hands-on Space projects, which enable students to gain first-hand experience of end-to-end development of space-related projects (e.g. small satellites, experiments on a variety of platforms reproducing different levels of gravity conditions or of weightlessness conditions, experiments to be flown on sounding rockets, experiments to be operated on-board the International Space Station), and a Training and Learning Programme, which offers a portfolio of space-specific training sessions.

The ESA Education Office works in close cooperation with specialists from ESA and industry, from university departments and other research organisations.

Information on the activities of the ESA Education Office can be found at  http://www.esa.int/Education.

Candidates interested are encouraged to visit the ESA website: http://www.esa.int

Field(s) of activity

As YGT, you will be involved in the Education Office activities related to university student satellite projects. The educational satellite projects provide opportunities for university students to gain valuable hands-on experience in the design, development, build, testing and operation of a complete satellite. The satellite projects in which the Office is currently involved are the European Student Earth Orbiter (ESEO), and the Fly Your Satellite! (FYS) programme for CubeSats built by university student teams. In particular, under the supervision of the ESA Project Manager, you will:

  • participate in systems engineering activities including requirements management, system modelling and analysis, budgets maintenance and review of project technical documentation;
  • support the project planning and progress tracking;
  • contribute to the preparation of ESA management and technical documentation for project reviews, for ESA internal and for outreach purposes;
  • support the coordination of all project activities, which may include project reviews, concurrent engineering studies, verification/test campaigns, launch campaigns preparation, launch and mission operations;
  • support the coordination of programme workshops and training activities;
  • interface with ESA technical and quality experts, in order to assist in the identification and resolution of critical technical issues;
  • provide support to the coordination of the student CubeSat development teams;
  • collaborate at integrating ESA educational satellite programmes within the more general framework of the ESA Academy activities.

You may also contribute to other student activities and projects of the Education Office, as required.
