Candidates interested are encouraged to visit the ESA website: http://www.esa.int

Field(s) of activity

ESA’s IT Department is continuously exploring new technologies and evaluating their benefits. Often these new technologies and innovations take place within the open source community and need evaluation and testing before being deployed.

As a YGT you will have the chance to work within ESA’s IT Infrastructure, platforms and automation teams. The goal is to identify and implement automation and orchestration workflows for the brokering of public cloud services (e.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS, European Open Science Cloud) alongside ESA’s current on-premises private cloud service.

The resulting services will also be made available to all ESA users through a self-service web portal.

You will be working with a varied technology stack encompassing microservices, container orchestration (Kubernetes), Python, Go, IT automation/IaC (Terraform, Ansible, StackStorm) and cloud (private/public) computing.

You will be able to propose new services and products based on publically available software and use-cases/needs emanating from ESA users. This can be done by extending the service provision of existing self-help portals and developing automations on top of open source and industry standard solutions. You will also support the industrialisation of the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) stack currently in use by ESA.

You can also join the IT Department’s Service Management teams and gain an understanding of the processes involved in delivering newly built services and products, making them enterprise-ready and transferring them to operations. Working with our IT service-providers and helping to ensure stability of delivered services will provide a unique perspective on the interlock between development and service delivery.
