DDG Technical Field Manager - EOD 

Duty Station [Mocha+Yemen]

 

We are looking for a highly qualified DDG Technical Field Manager-EOD who is able to work with diverse teams of both national and international staff as well as DDG team, provide technical, and support the Mocha office

Who are we?

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in conjunction with Danish Demining Group (DDG) has been operating in Yemen since 2008 using a protection of human rights framework. DRC initially worked in Yemen with mixed migrants coming from the Horn of Africa who are displaced by conflict and drought. Since then, DRC expanded its sectors of intervention and is now providing humanitarian assistance in nineteen governorates throughout the country. There are currently over 250 staff working between the Sana’a main office, two hub offices in Aden and Hodeida, and six field offices. Current programme sectors include protection (mixed migration, IDP, child), FSL, WASH, Shelter, and CCCM. DDG Yemen is currently focusing on Mine Risk Education and supporting the capacity development and deployment of standby Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC). Through quality surveys, data, and information management, DDG will also support YEMAC in the development of a more accurate threat and response maps.

About the job

DDG EOD Technical Field Manager will be responsible to provide strong technical support and management to the EOD Spot Task Team (TFM) in South Yemen for the organization, delivery and execution of spot task duties and taskings.

Will also be responsible for development of EOD skills and will assist DDG instructors during training of EOD teams.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of spot task EOD teams.
  • Contribute to the development of EOD skills for Spot Task Teams.
  • Submit timely reports to Operations Manager.
  • Support the EOD Spot Task TL with logistic preparations before and during operations.
  • Support and monitor EOD TL during operations.
  • Support and/or take the lead on operations in the field.
  • Identify and eliminate dangerous practices from EOD operators.
  • Conduct on the job training when necessary.
  • Make recommendations to improve DDG field implementation and provide refresher/extra training on specific areas of improvement.
  • Ensure all SOPs, guidelines and safety procedures are adhered throughout the activities.
  • Adhere to all local safety rules as per DRC/DDG policies in Yemen.
  • Liaise with Safety regarding security issues before and during operations.
  • Manage and support EOD Spot Task Teams in emergency situations.
  • Liaise with and support operations room.
  • Ensure constant communication with operations room.
  • Report any security issues to Safety and Operations Room after operations.
  • Conduct post-evaluation after each task.
  • Regularly inspect and ensure all equipment is serviceable and in working conditions.

 

About you

  • To be successful in this role you must have:
  • Minimum 5 years’ previous experience in humanitarian mine action and full understanding of its technical requirements.
  • IMAS EOD 3 qualifications and previous work experience as an EOD Operator.
  • Minimum two years previous experience working with a mine action INGO.
  • Experience with accreditation to IMAS standard.
  • Proven record of training, mentoring and developing the capacity of national staff, including in EOD.
  • Experience of working in challenging and insecure environments.
  • Diplomatic, patient and persistent.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Arabic an asset.
  • Experience working in diverse and cross-cultural context.
  • Willing to live in shared team house.
  • Good communication skills.

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until 30 September 2021, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from as soon as possible and be willing and able to work in Mocha, Yemen.
